I love Hungary! Specifically I love the Hungarian village in which I live -- Mikepercs. It is a little like living in an old Norman Rockwell painting -- only everyone speaks Hungarian.
Music
First and foremost, I adore the works of Micheal Card whose songs have inspired indepth personal Bible studies and meditation on scripture. Casting Crowns is at the top of my list as well. Their "Love them Like Jesus" captures the essence of what I hope our ministry in Hungary is. And Swing music, just for fun.
Books
Bible, of course -- Book of Hebrews currently. Any and all CS Lewis -- because he challenges readers to think along new avenues. All missionary biography type stuff. A Skeleton in God's Closet -- because it begs the question how would each of us respond if we had only faith and faith alone on which to stand.
Movies/TV
Shop Around the Corner, Swing Kids, Anne of Green Gables, The Thin Man Series, Shadowlands, All World War II era flicks

The family moved there in 2005 after her husband, Russell, retired from the US Army. She has served as Editor of Beverly LaHaye's Family Voice Magazine and periodically contributes to Chuck Colson's BreakPoint magazine. Her opinion pieces have appeared in newspapers across the country including the Orange County Register and the Detroit News. She is currently seeking a publisher for her first work of fiction, "Gift Giver: The Story of St. Nicholas." This story is youth fiction based strongly in the true story of St. Nick. Wrapped in action and adventure, "Gift Giver" seeks to restore some of the inspirational magic that has been lost in the modern concept of a secularized Santa. Good to hear from you Trudy! I am glad you are having a great time with your parents. Well, I pray you have a safe trip home, to Hungary. Jessica and I are doing well in the Lord. We are keeping our focus on Jesus and not our circumstances. God Bless you dear sister in Christ and your family. (((hugs)))Kristie:o)
I hope you are doing well. I suppose you are in Texas by now. I pray all is well with you and your family. God Bless you all! In my prayers.....Kristie:o)
Hey thanks for adding Sky High Music Showcase to your circle of friends!
Check out the interview with timmyTim and listen to his music! Leave a comment on the blog and let us know what you think.
I would love to see some photos of the Kurdish people. I read about them but no did not have any photos. So, let me know if you do post them, okay? Yes, I believe that God has been preparing both of us for what lies ahead here as well as our preparation for Heaven. One of Jessica's (and mine) favorite scriptures is from Jer 29:11. It is so hard to pick favorite scriptures out of such a vast erray. God's word all of it, is definitely living and breathing....working powerfully throughout the world to accomplish His Divine purposes. I am praying for the upcoming conference. God Bless you and have a magnificient weekend! (((hugs)))Kristie:o)
Well, I always enjoy reading your blogs....they are great. God has gifted you with writing.....so, use and share the gift as you are doing. God will bless others through your gift. I took Perspectives Fall 2006-2007 Spring. At first, I thought we could choose whatever people group we wanted to but.....the people group was already given. So, I prayed saying, "Well whoever the people group is then that is what I will do." The Kurdish People is what Perspectives had chosen for this time. I hate to say this but, I was like, "Who and where are these people located?" Then, I found out they were scattered throughout the Middle East and I was like yikes! How can I even be able to relate.....God, this is going to be impossible. The leader of Perspectives even said, "If you have been working on a particular people group or felt God calling you to a certain people you can choose to write about them instead." However, I remembered what I prayed. Only me and another participant chose to keep the Kurds as our people group. God blessed me so much by this paper. When I started reading about them it was unbelievable how God related this people group to me. Yes, even after my procrastination and delays............God chose to still bless me with this project. He opened my eyes and heart to a whole new diemension regarding the Middle East and the Kurdish situtation as they are scattered in so many different places. God is so Amazing. I went from ignorance to enlightenment....from dreading to write about or deal with anything in the Middle East.....to not wanting to stop learning more about this area and intercede in prayer. Have a good day dear sister! (((hugs)))Kristie
I think the Perspectives class should be taken by every follower of Jesus. The class really did teach me alot regarding missions. I didn't feel the same way as you did regarding the 10-40 window. The instructors we had did an excellent job. We had a very wide range of instructors who focused on missions here in North America, South America, China, Europe, Africa, Papa New Guinea and We had one instructor who was working in the Middle East. Our instructors and class was very supportive/encouraging to all those who were going as missionaries into the field. I wasn't even going to do the final paper but I felt the Holy Spirit bring that desire into my heart. They extended the deadline for turning the paper in so, I completed the assignment. I believe that God places each of us in the area where He so desires.....He sent you to Eastern Europe. If some doesn't consider Eastern Europe a legitimate mission field........Uhhhh then I don't know where it would be!!! Yes, we would definitely have talking covered. Have a great day. I read your blog and really liked it. ((((hugs))))Kristie
Hi Trudy!
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing all of that. How great God is for bringing you and Russell together for working to fulfill His purposes. I am sure you have both learned so much. I became a Christian only 6 mos. prior to 9/11. So, for me the entire situation in the Middle East and terrorists was.....well, quite frankly, I just did not understand or know anything. I just looked at Saddam as a monster and every one else in the Middle East as monsters. I never stopped to look at them through God's perspective until about 2 years later. I just remember being filled with anger and vengence in those first few months. God has been doing a great work in my heart so know my viewpoint is from His perspective which is the desire to see the peoples thoroughout the Middle East & the world come to know Jesus as thier Savior. To be real honest with you, I just tried to ignore the Middle East because it seems like such a difficult place for any type of mission work. So, when I took the Perspectives course @ Emmanuel my people group was picked for me....I had not say so in it. God keeps bringing the Middle East area back into my life at lots of different angles. With this he is also giving me a very different outlook on these nations....from a biblical perspective and bringing new light. God always reminds me that we can try to hide from God.....but it absolutely won't work. Every tribe, every tounge and every nation will be in Heaven. When Jesus gave the 2 greatest commandments and the second being "Love your neighbor as yourself." He wasn't just talking about Bobbie Sue Jones who lives next door to you but.......he means the terrorists who live across the ocean. He means the people who hate us with a passion and would dance for joy if we were destroyed. The street children...........I love them to pieces. I went to Africa because of them. I was at a Missions Conference in Nov 2002...heard about the Street Children (something else I was ignorant about) and was on a plane flying to Africa in Jan. 2003. It breaks my heart and it also breaks God heart. I am really looking forward to reading your book. I could learn a lot from you and Russell. God Bless you! (((hugs)))Kristie:o)
What a small world it is! Wow, he was in the service a long time. I have always had a great respect for our service men and women. Daddy got a bronze star and a purple heart and I think a campaign medal. I have a copy of the dictation which my mom typed out for him. I wrote a paper on the Kurds for my Perspectives course at Emmanuel School of Religion. My heart was broken over what they have gone through. Unfortunantly, my ignorance on many Middle East issues and world issues stemmed from my pre-conversion days. Prior to my becoming a Christian I could have cared less about what was going on in the world....it was all about ME, ME, ME. Praise God for unveiling my heart and eyes. I would like to hear more about your work with the Kurdish people. How long have you served on the mission field? Well, I've talked forever again.......Bye!Kristie:o)
Hi Trudy,
I remember hearing about both places when I lived down there. I actually lived in the little area known as Las Colinas. So, you lost the Texas accent? When I lived in TX everyone thought I was a native east Texan because of my Tennessee southern drawal. Wow! I can't believe it is that difficult obtaining her citizenship. I knew that international adoptions were expensive. Yes, God watched over your family in that situation. Speaking of a child with no country reminds me of the Kurds.........a people group with no country to really call thier own. So, who is the army veteran? My daddy was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was in the Battle of the Buldge and his infantry troop was overtaken. Most of them were killed but he was captured and put in a Nazi prison camp. I have a story he dictated to my mom and she typed it when she was 8 mos. pregnant with me. I wrote a poem based on his story. Unfortunately, he died when I was 10. Well, I have talked your ear off! God Bless you and have a great day! Kristie:o)
So, you are headed to the US...what part of Texas? Jessica was born in Grapevine, TX. I lived in Dallas for 3 years. I am sure the traveling will be an adventure. The time with your parents will be good. Too bad Tennessee and Texas aren't a little closer. I will keep your traveling in my prayers. Well, I want to get a copy of your book....I know it will be very good. I hope you have a blessed day. (((hugs)))Kristie
I've checked out MacKenzie Rollins blog a few times. She has some great pictures of India. She looks cute in her henna and sari. I haven't had time though to read all her experiences while there. I was preaching this past weekend and so was busy studying my sermons and such (battling my nerves too). Thanks for telling me of her blog.
Hi Trudy,
We are doing very well and....how are you and your family? I see you have a new blog.....I am going to print it off so I can read it. I always enjoy reading your articles. How is the book coming along? God Bless you dear sister, Kristie:o)
