Some things take time. Well, that's an understatement. Seven years ago, I had serious doubts I would ever perform again. Suffering from debilitating anxiety, I didn't pick up a microphone for three years. Every time I walked on stage, I felt terrified - like someone was holding a gun to my head. It was crazy considering I'd spent most of my life on stage. I started formal dance classes before I started pre-school and went on to perform in concert halls, convention centres, auditoriums and clubs throughout Australia and the US. At 24, I was in talks with Sony Australia. By 26, I was holed up in my house, trying to recover from physical and emotional exhaustion that sent me into a spiral of anxiety and depression. I thought my life was over and it definitely felt that way for a long time. I wondered if anything would ever feel "normal" again. But gradually, bit by painful bit, I've made the long journey back to the microphone. And I've learnt a lot about myself along the way; life lessons that I hold tightly to my chest. My journey has changed me. It's strengthened me. It's softened me. And it has heavily influenced the melodic stories that chronicle the delight and despair of the past seven years.
