"Music Ministry is much more than performing songs and selling CDs. It's about clearly conveying a message that enlightens the lost and encourages the found." So says Stephen Baustista, an up and coming Christian singer/songwriter who is passionate about writing songs from his heart that give glory to God and touch people's hearts and minds. "I try to write songs that are based on personal experience, and that others can easily relate to as well. If I am not able to stir a thought or strike a deep emotional chord in my audience, then I'm not ministering, I'm just entertaining."
Stephen Bautista comes from a long line of talented musicians, some of whom came to America from the Phillipines in the early part of the last century. Bautista's father frequently filled their family home with his remarkable piano playing, giving young Stephen an ear for quality classical music. Although his dad attempted to give his young son piano lessons, photos of little Stevie asleep at the piano show how far he got! In his teen years, Stephen asked for and received his first guitar for Christmas. He then taught himself to play and has been composing, playing and singing ever since!
Bautista's formal music training consists of college studies in music theory, Bachian voice-leading, harmony, and orchestration. While in college, he also studied jazz and classical guitar under renowned Milwaukee area guitarist, Gregory Scott. His vocal talent was honed during his involvement in numerous church, college and community choirs and singing groups such as the all-European Honors Choir. As a solo artist, Stephen has performed at college campuses, local churches, and coffee houses.
Stephen and his wife currently live in rural Nevada. The couple homeschools their four daughters and infant son. The family loves hiking, traveling, music, and spending time together watching the gorgeous sunsets over the snow-capped mountains that surround their valley.
