Books
Oh my--everything! Seriously, look at my shelves. You name a genre, and I have something in it. I love classic literature, I enjoy science fiction, I adore romance of any variety, I relish biting my nails in a good suspense or solving a mystery, there's a special place in my heart for chick-lit, and nothing tugs at me like a good women's fiction. Non-fiction? Eh. I've read some I enjoyed. Authors I can't get enough of--Francine Rivers, Nikki Arana, Trish Perry, Jill Nelson, Nora Roberts (hey, she's a local. sort of) and a few dozen more.
Movies/TV
NCIS, Eureka, Pride and Prejudice (the long version), Lucky Number Sleven (really tight writing, very cool)

About Roseanna M. White
Don't you just love trying to figure out what total strangers would like to know about you? I'll try to come up with something interesting.

Let's see. First off, I'm a writer--you know, one of those who've been writing stories literally since I could write. I have one novel published, a Biblical fiction entitled A Stray Drop of Blood. (For more info on that, check out WhiteFire Publishing ) or their page here on ShoutLife. WFP is a small publisher just getting off the ground, for whom I also do some editing. You can check out my ShoutLife page for my editing at shoutlife.com/editing. And feel free to visit my website at RoseannaMWhite.com. And my blog at RoseannaMWhite.blogspot.com.

My other fashionable hat is reviewer. My husband and I run the Christian Review of Books ( www.ChristianReviewofBooks.com or shoutlife.com/crob ), which is pretty much what its name says it is. I read and review tons of books through the CRoB, and I just started a column called "Between the Lines" that I've used to alternately rant and rave (the good kind of raving) about the books I read and the topics they bring up. I'm also getting into conducting author interviews through BtL. Finally, I've been a member of ACFW for over 2 years, too.

And more personally. . . I live in western Maryland with my wonderful hubby David (married 7 years last June), my gorgeous 3-yr-old daughter, Xoë (pronounced like Zoe), and our one-year-old son, Rowyn. David & I both attended St. John's College in Annapolis, known as the Great Books school, where we read everything from Aristotle to Virginia Wolfe, philosophy to science. (Guess all those stuffy classics is what has influenced my writing such that everyone apparently thought I was 50!)

Hobbies. . . who has time for them? Between reading and writing and feeding my ever-hungry family, helping with the CRoB, serving as pianist, music leader, and printer for our fledging church (Full Gospel Seventh Day Baptist in Cumberland, MD), and occasionally taking time for luxuries like sleeping, I don't have time for much else. (Just ask the dust bunnies hiding under my couch.)

Story Time . . . TWILIGHT   11/03/2009 - 6:02 AM
I don't often read "in" books. Not that I have anything against NYT Best Sellers, I just don't often have time to read anything but the CBA books I get for review. But my best friend threatened to disown me if I didn't read Twilight and even brought ... (login or sign up to read more)

Modern . . . Role Models   11/02/2009 - 6:03 AM
Is it totally pathetic that I wish I could be my character? It's not that she's got it all together. And I don't want to look like her (not that it would be a bad thing, but I'm content being her physical opposite;-). I don't particularly want to be ... (login or sign up to read more)

Praying   10/30/2009 - 7:13 AM
After a week of feeling pretty blah physically (headaches that may have bordered on migraines, given the way sound grated on my nerves and my stomach was upset), I didn't want to put the effort into the My Friend stuff, which takes longer than my oth... (login or sign up to read more)

Thoughtful About . . . Growing Up   10/29/2009 - 5:30 AM
It's a phrase we've heard, and which I've tossed around a few times: "Oh, grow up." And lately, I've had a few moments of "Wow. I feel like an adult all of a sudden." Like when we finally bit the bullet and bought insurance. Do you have any idea how ... (login or sign up to read more)

Remember When . . . Women Were Possessions?   10/28/2009 - 6:12 AM
The title doesn't exactly narrow down what time period I'm talking about today, does it? Not this century, but otherwise . . . =) Since I've spent the last few weeks whipping A Stray Drop of Blood into shape and getting it off to my endorsers, the... (login or sign up to read more)

Yikes... you're from Cumberland!? My sweet hubby was born and raised in Flintstone, and we're up there all the time! We have a little cabin in Artemas, right over the MD/PA line.

We need to 'do' coffee some time, girl! Let me know what your schedule is like in the coming weeks and we'll set something up.

Looking forward to meeting you in person!

Hugs,
Loree

Nice to meet you.

Roseanna,

It's nice to meet you. *smiles*
I also play the organ. *nods* Pianos catch my eye also. Is yours the old style with the scrolling woodwork?

Hi Roseanna,

Thank you, actually, that was at a wedding, I was the maid of honor at my cousins wedding. Since it fit so well with the idea of my book, that is the picture that I used for the back. Thank you so much for the welcome, how has your experiences been with your writing? It's great to meet friends!

I hadn't gotten to your guestbook message before I sent my note. We don't actually make syrup anymore, but Jim buys it by the 5-gal. pail and rebottles it. Still tastes real good!

Thanks, Roseanna!! That's a great idea (your Remember when theme) I do historical tidbits on my blog, too. I should probably get more organized like you are though. (But we do have the same blogspot template!! Good choice!) Hope you find just the right title for your story. Sounds like a great read.

Yes, I do keep busy, but I enjoy it!. May the Lord bless you as well.

Thank you, that is so sweet! :) It's one of several that I use in my book, so when I was looking for something instead of my face to display, I had it lying around perfectly formatted.

Made-up world....all books are great in that way! What I love about the fantasy take on it is that I don't have to worry about details, accuracy, or things like that which people might notice. I can focus totally on the situations and any characters I make up. (Low self-confidence about research, I imagine.)

I love the idea of your Biblical fiction story. I have liked reading Christian fiction set in Roman times--Ben-Hur, Quo Vadis, The Robe, stuff like that. The genre isn't used as much now, so I'm glad to see it!

Sounds like you've read a lot of the books I have. (I have often felt stuffy!)

Good to meet you, too, Roseanna. My books are set in Lake Manawa near Council Bluffs, Iowa. At the time of the books (1895 for the first one), the lake front had been developed as an upscale resort, complete with a Grand Plaza, band stand, pavilions, and Midway. It was considered the place to go west of Chicago. Today, the area is a state park.
