Lakay (1990)
My first published short story. Lakay was published in Philippine Panorama which is the Sunday supplement of the national newspaper Bulletin Today. This was the story that launched me on my writing journey.

It´s available for free at the aylad archives which was the first group I joined on the internet. The group is defunct, but this story and another story I wrote in the same year are still in archive.

About Rochita Loenen-Ruiz
I am a Filipina writer living in The Netherlands. My work has been published in a variety of online and print publications both abroad as well as in my home country, The Philippines.

I read and edit submissions for Haruah:Breath of Inspiration (http://www.haruah.com), write a regular Authors and Books column for Munting Nayon(the Dutch-Filipino publication) and write columns for DoubleEdged Publishing.

My poetry and short stories have been published in literary and mainstream publications as well as in speculative fiction publications. In 2007, OMF Lit Philippines released a book that includes excerpts from my poetic memoir. The book (Hope Away from Home) has already sold out and gone into second printing. I am currently working on a book that recounts the life of a tribal missionary in the Philippines.

I am an active member and volunteer of Bayanihan (a support center for Philippine Women in the Netherlands), I am also a sunday school teacher at my local church.

To support my literary habit, I give piano and voice lessons to the musically-inclined.

I have two beautiful sons. My eldest is a budding eight year old writer. My youngest is a beautiful surprise gift from God.
