I have written a poetic short story entitled "Simeon the Prophet."
I wrote most of the content of this book while I was in the Navy over in Viet Nam from 1969-1973. I was the only Christian on board that ship (USS Cacapon (AO-52))and I was going through some very rough persecution because when I first reported aboard the ship they wanted to take me to various brothels in "Sailor Town" and I refused to go. They insisted that if I was ever going to "fit in" on the ship, I had to go and not fitting in is something they did not tolerate. I refused to go and so I became the object of hatred and rage. I was persecuted, abused and beaten and in return I just kept being friendly to them, walking in forgiveness for them and trying my best to show the Love of Jesus. But the more I showed God's Love, the more angry they became and then their abuse lead to illegal imprisonments and weeks sentenced to hard labor. This went on for three years and the whole time I kept returning kindness for their hatred and I kept the Joy of the Lord in my heart. When I only had four months left in the Navy, some of the men on ship decided I had something real, that they wanted and I ended up leading 10% of the crew to the Lord in just 2 months time. The remaining 2 months I taught them fundamental truths from the Bible and how to take things to God in prayer. I am still in touch with a couple of those men who are still living for God and have raised families that are living for God. It was during these years that God showed me so many beautiful things as I spent hours and hours in prayer. I wrote these things down on scrap paper and when I got my first computer in 1994, I began collating all these paper scraps into a manuscript that in 2004 was published. The book is all about revelations and insight Father God gave me as I sought Him for wisdom to reveal Jesus to the lost men on the ship. It's a book I know you will enjoy. Please, the next time you purchase a Christian book to read, consider purchasing mine. I know you will be blessed by the surprising content. The only book that could be considered similar to this book is "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran. Yet those who have read it are those who also enjoy reading Max Lucado, C.S. Lewis, Tommy Tenney & Williiam Philip Keller. It's a short story, poetry, prose, parables, proverbs and also like a devotional.
