Hi, my earliest memories of singing was littlest me swinging on our backyard swingset. The song went something like 'I Am with you always, Jesus says to me' :) The next memory is 5-year old me singing 'Just As I Am' in the storage closet underneath the stairs after watching Billy Graham on TV on a Saturday night. We usually watched Gunsmoke while my daddy cut my fingernails with the nail clippers, but that night Billy was on and that song captured my heart then and there. Anyway, singing stayed with me throughout my life and in 1974 I wrote my first fledgling song about tea-drinking candlelight hours on Cape Cod. Somehow songwriting stayed with me too and I've been writing ever since about life, love, Jesus. Who inspired me to write songs (besides Jesus of course) was Phil Keaggy. I listened to his records (vinyl back then!) in my senior year of high school. "What A Day" and "Love Broke Through" set me on a whole new journey of listening, contemplating and learning to express my own feelings about this awesome new love I found again--Jesus. After about 10 years I began to expand my writing content to other subjects like my grandma's house, the other loves of my life-my husband and children, friendship, and just about anything I'd go through as a Christian and as a person. I've settled into writing about the two realms we live in because we are influenced by and experience both and need to be present in both. Songwriting is one of the sweetest gifts I know. It brings comfort, joy and healing (among other things) to both the writer and the listener and seems to break down any walls of age, race or gender. Like fingerprints every writer brings a unique sound and perspective to a subject and that's what I love. There's room for everyone.
