The Artist (2007)
Fall, 2007: the CHG releases their long-awaited album, "The Artist", thanks to Damian's Dream Music, LLC, Miami, FL, to be distributed nationally (and long-term, internationally) by Tenement Hall Productions, LLC, Miami, FL...

The album purposely consists of an unlucky number of tracks; 13. The opening and closing tracks, reminiscent of the likes of Meatloaf, Jack Kerouac, and Ani Difranco, are spoken word recitals of a poem by Mata entitled "The Artist". The album then takes off on a musical journey that gives the listener glimpses at an array of different characters, mindsets, and situations that have been perfectly portrayed and captured in song.

"Inside My Head", the first song on the album, captures the voice of a struggling artist or any person who has ever wanted for more. It begins as a soft folk-tinged tune and ends as a classic rock song with a kick. Written and led by the breathy vocals of CHG's Alexandra Norris, it introduces the listener to Alex's folksy singer/songwriter styling.

Then "Bittersweet" follows up with a beginning that seems to rise up like a beautiful sunny morning. This song, written and led by Carmen Tauler, gives us a sample of the powerful vocal punches that are yet to come on the album, while also introducing us to the voice of an unrequited lover. "Knowing how much I love you is not as painful as knowing I'll never have you" is the first line of the song and sets the pace for the rest yet to follow.

A remixed version of "Tigerlilly" creeps up behind the song of longing, and Albert soon takes the lead with what has come to be known as his original token tune. The song picks up the pace fast and shows that the CHG is not just all soft and mellow on this album, but that they indeed are a rock band. Through the lyrics, we hear the voice of someone who has done something terrible, driven by love and betrayal, "I don't think I cried, I think I smiled? she was buried with her unborn child" the dark song says.

And like this, the album goes on and on, alternating lead voices the way that the old bands of the 1970's used to do: weaving rich harmonies that are intricately arranged to drive the songs, songs which engage the listener with catchy baited hooks and tell-tale lyrics. Spoken word poetry is sprinkled throughout the album for added flavor, making this an album that is like no other and stamping it a "Must Have" for any cool collection.

The album moves around effortlessly, covering all areas of the rock genre, from classic rock to pop rock, country rock to 80's rock, alternative rock to folk rock, and even sporting some reggae rock!
