Beyond the Closet Door (2009)
Do You Hear the Call of The Rescuer?
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. (Revelations 3:20 - 21, NIV)
A rescuer translated in today's vernacular would be equivalent to the term super hero. For some it may be hard to see Jesus as a super hero in tights with a banner on his chest flying through the air like Superman. Especially when you've been struggling most of your life with the consequences of child abuse, and now you're all grown up and still carrying around that baggage.
Beloved, know that God did not forsake you. He has a rescue plan tailor-made just for you. He's been waiting all these years for you to answer the closet door of your wounded heart. Remember the closet? That place where you have stored all the things you don't want anyone else to know about ?
Beyond the Closet Door helps you find the courage and strength to get up off the closet floor of oppression, answer the door of deliverance and run into the waiting arms of your super hero, Jesus Christ. In his rescuing arms you will find the fulfillment of his promise for comfort, healing, forgiveness and everlasting hope.

Life is a series of transitions. Its highways are constantly filled with people seeking their destinies and purposes in life. Everything Sharon Jenkins is today is because of her journey. Sharon's journey started over 40 years ago in Queens, New York. She has literally followed many highways in search of who God wants her to be. At the age of eight, she decided that self-expression was a critical part of who she is. She began to write. In her early 20's she was challenged to speak about the songs that flowed from her heart. She began to talk to crowds of people. In her forties, after years of preparation by life's rough places, Sharon finally felt she had something to shout about because of the victories in her life. She began to teach. She is a published author and she has written several Christian plays. She has also co-authored a book of inspirational psalms called the Songs of Three Sisters and produced and directed two plays she wrote called The Café of Hope and Benjamin Thomas Worthington, Resurrected. She performed as a dramatic reader in the poetry recital Sing Loudly Hallelujah written and directed by K. G. Bell.
Sharon is a current resident of Houston, Texas. She is an educator and often refers to herself as a "teacher of teachers". Sharon's abilities to effectively communicate and adapt to a wide variety of audiences have been the keys to her success as a speaker. She has had the privilege of sharing with businesses, social organizations, churches, and schools as well as at professional conferences. She is also a public speaking coach.
This dynamic lady's goal is to always remain teachable. As a professional, she feels that education and application go hand in hand. She has a masters from Oral Roberts University. She is also a member of New Light Christian Center, a Houston Citizens Chamber Executive Board Member, listed in Who's Who in Black Houston, and the proud grandmother of four.

Beyond the Closet Door? Christ's Rescue From Abuse
By Sharon C. Jenkins
Beyond the Closet Door, a workshop created for victims of abuse celebrates the demonstrated power of Christ to heal and restore believers to complete wholeness. All victims of abuse deal with emotional issues in the aftermath of their oppression, whether it is physical, sexual, verbally or mental. Christ furnishes the breath of life for the hope found within the resurrected soul touched by Calvary's cost and empowers them to find God's divine purpose for their lives.
There is a clarion cry being sent out to the church to address this issue and to respond to it in Christ's love. It must start with prayer.
Many broken Christians are looking for their salvation experience to fix them. When the honeymoon period in Christ is over, they have to face a new level of demonic oppression because of their position in Christ. They then retreat to the closet. Few people have the privilege of knowing that even though our salvation experience is a done deal in God's eyes, it's a continuous process here on earth. Philippians 2:12 states that we must "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling." The implication is that our confession of faith in Jesus Christ is the beginning of our commitment to this process that requires a corresponding action on our part.
Beyond the Closet Door, assists the emotionally abused individual in finding their way to do the "work" necessary to embrace all that they've inherited through Christ and the cross. For the emotionally individual this work is wrapped in developing the courage to seek God for His promised healing.
When abuse is exposed to the healing light of God's love, miracles happen. In the first portion of the workshop we see this evidenced in the lives of numerous biblical characters and popular present day healed travelers who have been on a similar journey. For example: Joseph (the rejection of his brothers and their attempt to kill him), Esther (losing her parents at an early age and being taken from her Uncle Malachi), Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego (separation from their family, country, and way of life). All of these biblical examples found victory through their faith in Christ. In the second portion of the workshop we discuss current day Christian examples of overcomers of child abuse such as Thelma Wells, Stormie Omartian, Joyce Myers, my own personal testimony, and that of many everyday Christians who have struggled and found the key to go beyond that closet door.
The final part of the workshop assists the participants in charting their own pathway to becoming an overcomer in Christ through group dialog and journaling. Enclosed you will find a prayer for victims of emotional abuse who are on that pathway. Christ paid the price on Calvary for our healing, Beyond the Closet Door ? points you in the right direction to acquire that blood brought gift. Be healed my brother, be healed my sister, in the matchless name of Jesus!
The Lord's Prayer for Victims of Emotional Abuse
Our Father (My Abba with whom I have an intimate relationship) in heaven (most high and exalted one), hallowed be your name (holy and worthy to be praised is your name), your kingdom come (your original plan for my life, superseding my will and the will of the enemy), your will be done (here, now in my circumstances) on earth as it is in heaven (in agreement with your original intent and purpose for my life before the fall of man). Give us today our daily bread (your divine provision for whatever is needed: peace, comfort, strength, perseverance, love, and the assurance of your presence). Forgive us our debts, (our sins, our frailties, and imperfections) as we also have forgiven our debtors (as we choose to forgive those who have deceived, disappointed, discouraged, shamed, and violated us). And lead us not into temptation (protect us, secure us in Your love, strengthen us, help us to live above and beyond our past), but deliver us from the evil one (continue to rescue us from the snares and traps of the enemy as we continue to live in you, for you, and with you). For Yours is the kingdom (and you have called us to be kings and queens in this kingdom), and the power (manifested in the Holy Ghost who is our equipper and sanctifier) and the glory (your life changing power abiding in us) forever. Amen.
