Confessions of a Church Girl (2006)
When Beverly T. Gooden lost her virginity, she didn't understand what all the hype was about. Raised in a devout Christian home, Beverly enters an unfamiliar environment when she begins high school in the inner city of Cleveland, Ohio. Faced with drugs and violence, she makes the decision to follow the crowd against the teachings of her faith, and give up her virginity to a drug dealer she barely knew. Little did she realize this one decision would spark a series of events leading to inconceivable pain.
Confessions of a Church Girl outlines the true story of a young woman's secret five-year struggle with sexual addiction. Faced with infection and rape, she races to uncover the truth about her faith, and hear the voice of the God. This emotional, yet empowering story is an autobiographic journey entailing love, lies, sex, and drugs, teaching one young woman the true meaning of forgiveness.

About Author/Humanitarian Beverly T. Gooden
|
Born to a teenage mother, Beverly spent her childhood years under the tender care of adoptive parents. Early in life, Beverly excelled academically, developing superb communication and writing skills. Until one day while walking home from school at age 12, she was attacked and brutally raped by an unknown assailant. After years of keeping the attack secret from her family, Beverly encountered another major obstacle when her high school sweetheart died tragically. From that point, her life spiraled into deep depression and misbehavior, resulting in substance abuse, sexual addiction, and even jail time. Nevertheless, Beverly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She has written several newspapers articles, and done research in the Mass Media field. In July 2005, she began writing Confessions of a Church Girl as a means of personal healing. Soon after, she discovered this writing would ultimately change lives. Beverly is a candidate for a Master of Arts in Social Justice from Loyola University. She is the owner of the Beverly T. Gooden Corporation, a nonprofit humanitarian organization designed to establish residential housing for homeless and abused children. An award-winning journalist, she travels the country discussing addiction, rape, and abstinence with youth and women.
