"Still waters run deep" is the phrase that comes to mind when having a conversation with Steve Hornbeak. You won't hear him use his amazing music credentials to impress his audience. Living and working in Nashville, a town chock-full of musicians, Steve has gained the perspective that who he's worked with makes little difference anymore. Ask him his greatest musical moment and he won't mention his years of keyboard and vocal work with Faith Hill, or Lee Greenwood or Richard Marx. He won't mention the people he's engineered and produced in his home-based Key-Stone Studio or the co-writing credits he can claim currently playing on country radio markets across the nation. He won't mention playing on the Tonight Show or David Letterman or performing at the Grammys or CMA's. In those few minutes of getting to know Steve, you will hear the song of his wonderful heart when he shares his most meaningful dream.
Of all his many talents Steve's most cherished is his gift of faith through his songs. He'll share the moment when he felt his master purpose performing his original songs of devotion during a Katrina Benefit to members of a Crossroads Methodist Church ... His highest goal is to share his own brand of Christian-themed contemporary music.
These songs are beautifully crafted with lyrics that offer his perspective of life well-lived in a spiritual direction. They have the humilty of devotion blended with common and current experience one can open up to. When you listen to either his funky up-tempo gospel styled tunes or piano driven ballads you will find yourself absorbed by Steve's talent. Add his flexible warm tenor voice to his skill on the keyboard and you hear the depth of true conviction rendered as art that moves and inspires one to connect with God.
