Heart Tree For Empty Nesters (2007)
Early in my study of Bible characters with adult children, I came across the Bible verse Matthew 13:31-32 about the mustard tree. The Bible said the tree grew large enough so that birds of the field could come and rest in the branches. Related Bible studies revealed that the mustard trees during the New Testament times, which were different from today's mustard plants, also provided seeds for the birds to eat. Doesn't that sound like adult children? They visit our homes to rest for a few days and eat up our food! But, isn't that what we mothers want to give our children -- a place where they can come and communicate with us, receive comfort, and take part in the nourishment of love and encouragement that a Christian home can provide? And isn't that what a mother wants her heart to be like - a heart that resembles the mustard tree in the Bible? I liked the idea so well that I drew the comparison between how a "heart tree" is related to the empty nest. The idea to call the book The Heart Tree for Empty Nesters was born. I would like to write other books under the trademark name, The Heart Tree.
