About Chen Likai
Hi, my friends! My name is Chen Likai (Mr.Chen.), and I'm now a freelance author in China. Chen is my family name and Likai is my given name. In western culture, I should put my given name at the beginning, but the Chinese people have the tradition of putting their family names at the beginning, so that's why my name reads Chen Likai.

I have just finished a storybook in English with the help of Kristen Collier (a good friend of mine), Shuisheng the Mallard, for young adults, and it will come soon around the end of April 2007,by Mill Creek Press in Salt Lake City, UT (www.millcreekpress.com). My book is about a small duck team flying to the south for the harsh winter.

The life of a Mallard, as seen through Shuisheng's eyes is a captivating tale you'll want to share with the whole family. Set in China, the story begins with Shuisheng hatching with his two baby duckling sisters in early spring. By fall, they've grown, and the ducks are ready to fly south for the winter. That's when the adventure begins! I have tried to weave a beautiful story of ancient Chinese legends as well as contemporary issues to make the journey humanizing, thought provoking, and uplifting.

My purpose in writing this story is to promote the protection of our environment and wild life. I sincerely hope all of you will enjoy my story, thank you!

If any of you have any questions, please feel free to

Thank you!

"Great to see you here, Likai! I know you will make many good friends and I am happy to see you here, too! I know you will enjoy this site!

And to everyone who reads this I want to encourage you to buy Likai's books. Besides my husband (who only sleeps four hours a night, he works so hard), Likai is the most dedicated, hard-working writer I've ever met. Because of a stroke Likai can hardly even type OR see. He has no native English speakers around him where he lives in China yet he still writes IN ENGLISH. And this man who can barely see even did HIS OWN ILLUSTRATIONS for this book!!! With pencil drawings in a style similar to those found in classic picture books, Likai's artwork has a beautiful Chinines artistry to it.

It's unheard of in the spoiled West for someone to show the kind of perseverance Likai's displayed--for a man who can barely even see or type, he not only wrote but ILLUSTRATED his own book!! And that's just the start, for he just passed me his next manuscript to read, a novel of ancient Chinese love stories. Considering the precious love displayed between Shuisheng and his mate in "Shuisheng, the Mallard," I can only imagine the beauty Likai's crafted in this story between two lovers. I can't wait to start reading it!

Dear, dear Chen! I'm so sorry to hear about your stroke. My husband had a heart attack on New Year's Eve, so I understand how a thing like that can change your life.

But you are pressing on despite the hardships, and I admire and respect you so much for that! I'll just bet you have kept a log or a journal of your journey since leaving the college and teaching... and I know it would make a beautiful, helpful devotional, should you couple your experiences with Bible verses and personal prayers!

Congratulations on selling your novel! I pray there will be many more just like it on book store shelves soon!

The neighbors across the street from me are from Shanghai, and what delightful people they are! Busy and hard-working, they always have time to stop and wave and holler "Hello!" across the road.

Looking forward to getting to know you better here at Shoutlife. Meanwhile, I pray you will enjoy your Wednesday!

Hugs to you!

Glad tidings and warm thoughts Fellow Authors,

We've decided to brave the cold. January 15 through 19, 2010 the Author Collective will shake hands with and share a cup of warm cider with 9,000 plus librarians of the northeast United States and elsewhere. The American Library Association Mid-Winter will be held in Boston, Massachusetts and what better way to showcase your book?

Past conventions have indicated that two specific genres are now in big demand, "Children" and "Urban" titles. As such we are planning to include a separate section in our booth dedicated to Urban Fiction and Non-Fiction plus books that instruct and educate children from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. We are now looking for authors who have such topics. If your writings fit these categories you should join the Author Collective TODAY!

Our goal is to help the self-published and un-known,under-known and soon to be well known author, get their craft in front of the people who make decisions to buy books in quantity. Sign up for the Author Collective today and get an extra month of membership FREE. That's right, join any time in December 2009 and your membership will not expire until January 1, 2011.

Don't let this opportunity pass you bye. Call me TODAY!
