I love the way John Grisham writes. His style, etc . . . but I've read so many authors. I just am really inspired by anyone who can write a good story that keeps me reading.

Well, I do have a blog. But there's nothing stopping us from writing columns on our blogs that deal with this subject, is there!
LOL
The thing I encounter most often is the wide-eyed, slack-jawed expression of 'others' when they hear I write Christian fiction. They recover quickly, and within a matter of seconds, want to know when I'm going to write "a real book." Then it's my turn to stand wide-eyed and slack-jawed, because no matter how many times I hear it, the comment always stuns me.
Then there are the people who look down their noses at 'genre fiction'. You know the types: The self-appointed literati who think unless you're reading some thick classic, you're wasting your time. My question to them, without fail is, "Who decides what a classic is!?"
Which invites, yet again, that wide-eyed, slack-jawed expression. LOL
If only we could reach the point in time where an author AND his/her work is judged on its merits, and not which 'cubby' the high muckety-mucks have stuffed us into.
Is the plot plausible? Are the characters believable? Is the dialog realistic? Is the action properly motivated? Does the story keep you turning pages? THOSE are the things that should determine what's 'literarily' credible and what's not.
I understand readers' reluctance to pick up books that aren't categorized as "Christian". Reading stuff already 'judged' by publishers as "Christian" means they needn't worry they'll be exposed to foul language, gratuitous violence, sex, etc.
It all boils down to trust: Do they trust the author to provide stories that won't lead them down a path to sinful thoughts... or not?
Hold that thought while I cut and paste this for future use on my blog!
LOL

I see/hear ya, sistah.
There are enormous stacks of books out there with valuable lessons within their pages. And some that, while there's no real "lesson", are just plain entertaining... and in both cases, they don't fall under the heading of "Christian fiction" simply because there are no Bible verses in 'em.
But I believe there is a message in those, just the same, and that sometimes, it's as powerful as a biblical theme.
And just between you and me? LOTS of readers have written me to say they read "outside the Christian genre" box.
Nothing wrong with that!
And I'm glad I started this. I'm thinking we need to take this to BLOG format so more people can get on board and comment.
What say you!

I agree about how much attention 'that group' of authors gets. So we can lob that back and forth as we discuss this topic!
Lookin' forward to it. Arrrrr!

Might be a good thing for us to go back and forth with, here and at Facebook and Twitter, too!

Yeah, I remember that... The interview is for my web site's newsletter, "Information Station". The site gets between 40-60 hits a day, but it's better than nothin', eh? LOL
If you'll email me a brief reminder (loree@loreelough.com), I'll send back the Q&A. You're slated for the November issue, but if the guy in the March slot doesn't return his pretty soon, that's yours if you want it.
Sound good? Let me know!
Talk soon. Meanwhile, have a wonderful Wednesday!
Hugs,
Loree

Hi Sue.

Happy New Year!
We all make New Year resolutions. But generally, within a few weeks they have all become casualties of our busy schedules, inconsistency or just plain 'ol lack of will power. So in light of this a most common pitfall, we thought we would ask our Shoutlife friends to ponder and answer the following question...
What is the smallest change with the greatest impact you can now make to bring you closer to a personal goal or just simply much needed change at home, at work or in life?
Link 2 us and be inspired!
