I Promise You (2006)
Soon you'll be standing before a minister and you'll be asked to repeat very important promises to each other -- promises to love and care for each other, protect each other, and spend the rest of your lives together. You'll make those promises before God, your family, and all who have come to witness your marriage. You'll exchange rings that symbolize your commitment to those promises. But when you make them, will you really understand what they mean? And will you keep them every day for the rest of your lives?
Care. Protection. Honesty. Time. These are the four key promises I encourage you to make to each other -- and to keep for a lifetime.

Defending Traditional Marriage (2005)
Why does traditional marriage need to be defended?
Traditional marriage is a permanent and sexually exclusive relationship of extraordinary care between one man and one woman.
But marriage, as defined this way, has been under attack for more than seventy-five years, and if you're married--or planning to be--that's not good news. In fact, those attacking traditional marriage have been winning. Why? And what can be done about it?
Historically, traditional marriage has provided two primary advantages over any other relationships: safety and stability. If either of these advantages is undermined, the success of an entire society is threatened. With heated sanctity-of-marriage debates swirling around us, whose responsibility is it to defend what's left of traditional marriage?

His Needs, Her Needs - for Parents (2003)
Are children a threat to your marriage?
Finding time to laugh together, talk with each other, and enjoy each other's company came easy when it was just the two of you. But then you had children.
If marriage and parenting leave you feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone. Most couples feel the way you do after children arrive. But don't let the pressures of parenthood ruin your marriage. Don't let the care you give your children prevent you from caring for each other. Instead, keep your marriage healthy -- and your children happy -- by making each other your top priority.
It isn't easy to keep a marriage passionate. And with children underfoot it can seem downright impossible. But if you take Dr. Harley's advice, you can have it all -- happy children and a terrific marriage.

His Needs, Her Needs (2001)
His Needs, Her Needs is designed to change the course of a marriage. Using a conversational style, Dr. Harley helps couples understand why their best intentions are not enough to prevent marital incompatibility. Couples must do more than want to meet each other's needs--they must actually meet them!
The right needs are so strong that when they're not met in marriage, people are tempted to go outside marriage to satisfy them. But aside of the risk of affair, important emotional needs should be met for the sake of care itself. Marriage is a very special relationship. Promises are made to allow a spouse the exclusive right to meet some of these important needs. When they are unmet, it is unfair to the spouse who must go through life without ethical alternatives.

Willard F. Harley, Jr., Ph.D. is best known as author of the internationally best selling book, His Needs, Her Needs: Building An Affair-proof Marriage. Over three million copies have been purchased, and it is available in twenty-two foreign translations.
Dr. Harley earned a Ph.D. degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1967 and has been a Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota since 1975. For the first ten years after earning his degree, he taught psychology at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. During those years, he was also a frustrated part-time marriage counselor with little success in helping couples.
In 1973 he discovered that he was not alone in his failure to save marriages -- almost everyone in the marital therapy profession were also failing. So he spent the next two years designing an entirely new approach (see How Dr. Harley Learned to Save Marriages). When his success rate skyrocketed in 1977, he resigned from his teaching position to counsel full-time. Over the next ten years his solo practice developed into the largest network of mental health clinics in Minnesota (thirty-two locations) with over one hundred psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and chemical dependency counselors working with him to provide a full range of mental health services. He became the exclusive provider of mental health and chemical dependency services in ten counties, and had offices in other counties as well.
One of his responsibilities was to write support materials for the clinical program he directed. He created over one hundred questionnaires and wrote numerous articles that were given to clients as part of their therapy. Among the materials he wrote was His Needs, Her Needs, which was first published in 1986. Although it was written to be a support text for his marriage counseling program, within three years it had become a national best-seller and a basic reference for marriage counselors throughout the nation.
By 1988 he found himself spending almost all of his time administering his clinics, and very little time doing what he enjoyed most -- improving his marital therapy program. So he began turning his clinics over to the counselors who worked with him, and the ownership of his last clinic was transferred in 1993. Since then, he has written 16 more books and hundreds of articles.
Dr. Harley and his wife, Joyce, are actively involved in the Marriage BuildersĀ® Online Program, which introduces couples to his highly successful plan for marital recovery. An online seminar offered by Dr. Harley kicks off a one-year home study program that includes personal accountability. He supervises the progress of those who enroll, and answers their questions on a special Marriage Builders Weekend section of the Forum.
Dr. and Mrs. Harley have been married for 47 years and live in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. They have two adult children, who are now working with them as marriage coaches, and four grandchildren.

As a child, in my house, April meant Spring cleaning, and no one cleaned more thoroughly than my mom. She had my brother and I take furniture out of each room, so she could get to the nooks and crannies of every corner in the house, and then she'd have me use my baseball bat to beat the dust and sand from the rugs she meticulously stretched over the clotheslines. Spring cleaning was a ritualistic event, and there was one thing I could count on after a week of cleaning every room in the house, and that was that the house was as clean as it could possibly be. We'd repeat this event in the Fall, and right before Christmas.
Well, it is Spring, and this month's Trail Mix is a thorough prayer of cleansing that ALL of us need to do from time-to-time, or, in my case, time-to-time often means several times a day or week, especially when I am given over to the flesh within me. Anyway's, I couldn't think of a better prayer in the entire Bible to clean us from head to toe and from everything in-between, then Psalm 51. The remorseful Psalm of King David when he finally realized his sin with Bathsheba was totally not what God would have ordered for him.
I can only challenge each of you to prayerfully read this Psalm, and where its words are applicable, to ask the Holy Spirit to apply the cleansing to your heart and soul in order to present you before God, completely repentant and remorseful for the things in your live that have been committed by way of commission or commission, or both, so that you can stand before God righteous and ready to be used in a way the glorifies the Father with all aspects of your life.
Let's pray: "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to the multitude of Your tender mercy and loving-kindness blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly [and repeatedly] from my iniquity and guilt and cleanse me and make me wholly pure from my sin! For I am conscious of my transgressions and I acknowledge them; my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned and done that which is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified in Your sentence and faultless in Your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in [a state of] iniquity; my mother was sinful who conceived me [and I too am sinful]. Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart.
Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall [in reality] be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness and be satisfied; let the bones which You have broken rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my guilt and iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then will I teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted and return to You.
Deliver me from blood guiltiness and death, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness (Your rightness and Your justice).
Open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
For You delight not in sacrifice, or else would I give it; You find no pleasure in burnt offering. My sacrifice [the sacrifice acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise. Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then will You delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, justice, and right, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering; then bullocks will be offered upon Your altar."
Remember, the Path is Narrow, and Jesus told us it would have its difficulties. In 1 John 1:5-10, This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
Spring cleaning is necessary for all of us who travel across the Narrow Path; so allow the light of the Holy Ghost to enlighten you as He searches those nooks and crannies of your heart, spirit, language, thoughts and walk [life]. If it is true that confession is good for the soul, this month's Trail Mix should put some "pep back into your step!" as it reconnects you to the Father.
Shalom,
Pastor Paul

Shalom,
Here is a word of scripture for today:
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the YaHWeH revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Elohim, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the YaHWeH hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the YaHWeH to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the YaHWeH shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
(Isa 53:1-12)
I pray you find the blessing in this portion of the word!
In his service,
Rachael

Shalom,
I pray you and yours have a blessed week remembering our savior, and his sacrifice for you.
"Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." (1 Corinthians 5:7-8)
Blessings,
Rachael
