My name is Gregg Eckersen and I was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, and have been a lifelong resident of this area. Like most drummers, my interest in drums began when I was a small child. I would collect empty coffee cans and gather a couple sticks from the yard and "make a joyful noise". When I was in elementary school, I joined the school band and learned to play the snare drum and other percussion instruments. At the age of 14, I joined my first "garage band". Our first paid gig was at "Skateland". We received $5.00 per man. Since then I've been in countless numbers of bands and played at many different venues in and around the Daytona area. In 2005 I started the Daytona chapter of "Drummers for Jesus" of which I am still the chapter leader. You can visit our site at www.drummersforjesusdaytona.com
In February of 2007 I retired after 30 years in a job that I disliked very much. I didn't have enough money put aside to retire and do nothing, and had no idea what I was going to do to support myself. I was contacted by a person who was looking for someone to teach drums to a 13 year old boy. I was out of practice and lacked the confidence that I could teach but I took the job offer as a challenge. I found that not only could I teach but I enjoyed it very much. While spending time on my computer, I came across the drumsense web site. I sent an email inquiring about Drumsense and several weeks later I received a package explaining the program and an invitation to join up. Through the persistence of Nick Cole, I finally decided to try the program in October of 2007. It is the best thing I ever did. Drumsense has given me direction and organization. I now teach at Total Entertainment music store in Daytona Beach and I have 25 students and steadily growing. The sky is the limit when you have structured program to offer.
