Listen to "Breakaway" Radio--A place for inspiration. Operated by Nancy Seymour.
Nancy has been singing since the tender age of four in church choirs, community choirs and solos as well. She picked up playing the keyboard much later on in life, and is often amazed at how God is using her through her singing and songwriting. Nancy has a sound that is often described as pure, sweet, and totally unexpected. When asked about her music style, she answers, "I know that my style is different from the typical black singer, but I have learned to use that as an advantage in reaching people. People are interested in hearing me because I am different. I sit down to write songs, and my style comes out. I open my mouth to sing, and my sound is simple and pure. It's how God has made me, and I love it and will use it for His glory!" Nancy does not put herself in a box with songwriting. All of her songs are inspirational, but not from any one genre. "Inspiration does not have to come from one genre of music", she says.
Although her song style may not reflect it, her spiritual motivation has come mostly from artists like Stephen Curtis Chapman, Shirley Cesar, Michael W. Smith, Sandi Patty, and Twila Paris.
Nancy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration. In spite of her academic achievements in other areas, Nancy does admit that her first love and passion is and always will be music. In college she chose music as a minor with a proficiency in voice. She presently teaches Business subjects in senior high school. She is happily married to her life-long sweetheart, Henry.
Nancy's Mission: I think the big thing for me right now is that I'm learning to not 'waste' my experiences. I use my experiences now to help others. I share whenever I can of what God is doing in my life. I realize that everything that He allows is for a reason. Some of these experiences are just for me, but most of them are allowed so that I may be able to help others who are going through the same things. I am learning how to be transparent and open. I am learning to share my failures and victories. I write about them, I sing about them, I talk about them . . . and that is fulfillment for me. There will be no more 'wasted experiences'.
"My life's verses are:
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain."
Phillipians 1:20-21
