So many I could never name them all. I've never known a time when books weren't my best friends. From Grimm's and Anderson's fairy tales, Little Women, Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky, and Pride and Prejudice, to Louis L'Amour, C. S. Lewis, Phillip Yancey, Mark Buchanan, Peter Robinson, Linda Hall, and so many more, I continue to read whenever I can find a few minutes.

My mysteries are written in the classic style of Agatha Christie, Georgette Heyer, Dorothy Sayers, Patricia Wentworth, Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh and others. My teen novels owe something to the Danny Orlis books, to In His Steps, and to the Trixie Beldon books. Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stir the Heart and Warm the Soul, is coming out in May. It's an anthology I co-edited, written by 30 authors.

I like movies that are enjoyable to watch,
have lots of snappy dialogue and well-developed characters,
and have happy endings.
Lots of oldies: Swing Time,
the Philadelphia Story,
The Africa Queen,
Desk Set,
Woman of the Year,
and many more.
More recent ones: Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version),
Sense and Sensibility,
First Wives Club,
Star Trek,
Monk,
Due South,
Reba,
Corner Gas.
Really enjoyed the repartee in "Notes and Music.
" Also loved Lord of the Rings (Well,
it had a happy ending!)

Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stir the Heart and Warm the Soul (2008)
* A middle-aged woman wakes up in the middle of the Australian outback and discovers her husband lying comatose beside her.
* A young doctor questions God's will after losing his devout grandmother to breast cancer.
* A lonely waitress stuck in a small town wonders how God could possibly use her.
* A missionary in Africa, dedicated to serving God, has a horrific car accident that leaves him brain-damaged.
* A shy twelve-year-old girl struggles with the idea that God wants her to write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper telling people God loves them.
In every instance these ordinary people discovered that God was waiting to dry their tears and help them see His plan for their lives?a plan where good eventually emerged from the hurt and confusion.
Hot Apple Cider is an inspirational anthology by 30 Canadian authors who are Christian, including Carolyn Arends, Mark Buchanan, Keith Clemons, Grace Fox, Sheila Wray Gregoire and Denyse O'Leary. They've learned that dependence on God creates the character and insights that produce a deep, rich faith.

"Lindquist, a master of plotting, seeds her tale with concealed clues and innuendoes that keep readers guessing until the very end. Reminiscent of golden age mysteries, her latest will appeal to fans of classic mysteries." Library Journal

More Than Friends: Circle of Friends #4 (2004)
Seventeen-year-old Glen Sauten learns that who you were yesterday and who you are today are not as important as who you will be in the future.
A beautifully written book filled with real, vulnerable characters. ... Glen, despite his quiet nature, is never wimpy and makes a fine, heroic role model for the book's readers.
Ms. Lindquist is able to craft stunningly vivid guy-characters, yet she never neglects the female characters. Highly recommended." Rosemarie DiCristo, Christian Library Journal

Best of Friends: Circle of Friends #1 (2000)
A delightful coming-of-age novel about Glen Sauten, a high school senior, who learns that what's inside a person is more important than good looks, money, popularity, or a fast car.
"The story grabbed me from the first paragraph and would, I think, do the same for most teens and "teens at heart." A...novel that retains its authenticity to this degree is rare and should not be missed." Christian Week, author Fay S. Latka

In Time of Trouble (2000)
Troubled 18-year-old, Shane Donahue, discovers that having a relationship with God can change your life - but not necessarily the way you might expect.
"N.J. Lindquist weaves an engrossing story depicting an angry, confused young man, with realism and in-depth knowledge of how a teen thinks and feels. Although not the ordinary story of religion and witnessing, teens and adults alike will laugh, cry, and cheer for Shane throughout this refreshing book. The only criticism is it ends too soon." The New You: Welcome to Your New Life (2000)
Giving your life to God isn't the endit's the beginning of a wonderful new life! But many Christians remain "new" for years because they are never discipled, and as a result they have great difficulty reaching out and helping someone else grow. The New You covers a lot of basic information in a revolutionary waynot only teaching knowledge, but also providing a forum for one Christianeither an adult or a teento disciple another with genuine caring and accountability.

The Bridge 2: My Relationship w My World (1999)
Most Christians know that God wants them to live in close relationships with other believers while reaching out to nonbelievers, but at a practical level don't really know quite how to do this effectively. The Bridge V. 2 helps teens live for God in today's world within the context of a variety of different relationships. Like The Bridge 1, it is a six-week guide that's ideally used by one teen discipling another. While it's great for a cell-based church, it can be used by anyone wanting to equip and empower teens. The Bridge 1: My Relationship With God (1998)
The Bridge V. 1 was created to make sure that today's teens come to a practical understanding of who God is, why he loves us, and how we can have a relationship with him. It's not enough to know what we believe on an intellectual level: we also need to have a vibrant, ongoing relationship with God. The Bridge is a six-week guide that is ideally used by one teen discipling another. While it's ideal for a cell-based church, it can be used by anyone wanting to equip and empower teens. Hi,
Glad to be here. Okay, who am I? Well, first I'm a child of God, then a wife and mother.
Then it's a toss-up what comes next. Probably being a speaker and an award-winning author and columnist.
"Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stir the Heart and Warm the Soul" is my latest book. It's a wonderful anthology I edited with Wendy Elaine Nelles. It contains the work of 30 Canadian authors who are Christian. I recently won three awards for my two articles in "Hot Apple Cider."
My latest speaking topic is a two and a half hour workshop called "Release the Creative You" I've been teaching across Canada.
I'm currently updating all of my speaking topics and so forth, and you will soon be able to see everything on my new website.
My two mysteries, "Glitter of Diamonds" and "Shaded Light" are still available. "Glitter of Diamonds" combines a classic-style mystery with baseball and sports reporters and a brand new Christian and a whole lot of other stuff. You can see it at www.glitterofdiamonds.com
I also have five novels for ages 11 and up that are read by guys as well as girls. You can see them at www.thatslifecommunications.com
I'm told my novels have several characteristics in common: characters that readers care about; intricate, dynamic plots; the ability to have the reader laughing one minute and in tears the next; and a reflection of the multi-cultural patchwork quilt North America has become.
I also have three cell-based discipleship manuals designed to be used by teens to disciple other teens to "be" the church: The New You and The Bridge 1 and 2.
What do I speak about? Faith topics, creativity, and writing. My favorite topic is, "How to find the courage to be all that God created you to be."
I'm also the Co-founder of an association for Canadian writers and editors who are Christian called The Word Guild, and the director of the conference known as Write! Canada.
