Influences:
Always first is the Lord. The songs I have written have been inspired by something I've read in the Word of God or after a quiet time of meditation. I am so thankful for the gift of music. The melody and poetry of it are the best way I know to praise His name.

Styles of music that have influenced me:
Emmy Lou Harris, Allison Krauss, The Isaacs, The Martins, Kim Hopper, The Gaithers

About Barbara Anne Fillion & The River Band
Hello and thanks for visiting. Our Lord never ceases to amaze me ! His mercies are new every morning and I praise Him for His marvelous works. I have always loved to sing but it wasn't until I came to know the Lord as my Savior that this took on new meaning. I realize it is a gift from God and I believe the Lord has put these desires in my heart.

I am a mother of two and have come to understand that motherhood is the first ministry the Lord has given me. That is why I limited my music ministry throughout the years while my husband and I raised our two adopted children, a son from the U.S. and a daughter from Seoul, South Korea. We feel so blessed to have been able to adopt.

I began singing in my hometown church in Brookfield CT in 1985. I am self taught on the guitar and have always had a flair for poetry. One day I came up with a melody for the "Lord's Prayer". Since then I have been blessed to write over 400 songs.

Around this time I was interviewed and shared my testimony on Trinity Broadcasting Network live in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and was asked to fill the need of leading Praise and Worship for the Danbury Chapter of Women's Aglow International, a ministry to women.

A close friend prompted me to do something with my songs, and I was introduced through a church connection to a local musician/producer. This led to the making of my first album, "HIGHWAY HOME", released in 1988. I then joined the Christian band, "Messenger". We ministered at Woman's Correctional facilities, nursing homes, Christian concerts, country fairs, church events, weddings, and ministry/fellowship banquets.

I hadn't written for a while and on my way home one day, a line came to mind along with a melody. Upon arriving home, it was off to my studio, and the song "HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN", was completed shortly thereafter. Thus, a new writing spree began and I sensed it was time to record a new album.

For the past 2 years I have been working on my latest CD, which of course I call, "HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN". It was released in November 2006 on my independent record label, Dove Star Records. The CD is an eclectic blend of Gospel music capturing bluegrass, southern and country traditions with a trace of celtic influence. I recorded the majority of the musical tracks long distance via Nasville where I was blessed to have some of the finest musicians set their talents to this project, who played such venues as the Grand Ole' Opry, Dollywood, The Smoky Mountain Jubilee and have performed with Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Merle Haggard, Kingdom Heirs, The Perry's and more. The CD contains original songs as well as renditions of some of my favorite Christian-Gospel Songs.

Just before the album's release I had the opportunity to meet the southern Gospel quartet,The Easter Brothers, of all days on Easter morning at a little church in Staunton VA. How that all came about, some would say is coincidence, but we know better, right! The Lord had me just where He wanted me.

My latest CD WHERE ANGELS FLY WAS RELEASED IN AUGUST 2009. We had a busy year locally and a short tour to OHIO. it was awesome. This CD features 11 songs including Let The Children Come; which is the theme song I wrote for Compassion International. I have been an artist advocate for Compassion simce 2007.

I work with a 2-3 piece band or as a soloist depending on the venue. If you care to visit my website, it is: www.barbara-anne1.com or click on my picture to the left.

Take care,

Barbara

Barbara Anne -

I just stopped by to say hi! I was just in your area at the Iron Sharpens Iron Conference in Hartford, Connecticut. WOW! What a great group of Christians. I got to tour the leaves and passed right through Danbury and Poughkeepsie. Loved the country and people.

Have a blessed day!

Hello and yes it has been a long time since we talked. Hope things are going well. We have a new member in the group and things have been very busy for us. We have witnessed many folks coming to the alter and being changed in Jesus name. We will be headed for the Mt. this weekend. Please pray for us as we travel. God bless.
