Originally a group of four (3 sisters and a brother), this group of singers began singing for their father, Minister L. W. Washington, Jr., as a prelude to his sermons. Originally, Minister Washington was pleased that his children were singing at all. Then, about one year later, he decided to stretch their potential and teach them to sing in harmony. They picked it up instantly. At that time, none of the siblings could play instruments so they relied upon other musicians to "pick up," by ear, on the music they were singing. However, musicians often demonstrated difficulty in following the songs they were singing, so these siblings began to sing acapella so as to make things less difficult for everyone. They have specialized in acapella music ever since that time.
For the majority of their singing careers, the quartet was known, everywhere they sang, simply as the Washington Children/Singers. After the oldest of the group moved away, the three younger siblings struggled to sing together because they knew things would be different without big sister. However, after being inspired by their mother, they began singing again.
A few years later, the Washington children decided to change their name, so as to wear a name that was befitting to the focus of their ministry -- discipleship with an emphasis on obedience to the Word of God. With the help of their mother and other loved ones, the Washington children donned the name, Of Scripture.

Members of the group include Sparkle, Lulanger Mandingo, and Vanity Washington. The group's focus is scripture memory through song (book, chapter, & verse) with the understanding that God's Word is the only weapon with which to fight the powers of darkness.
Of Scripture operates under the umbrella of Christians Supporting Christians In Need (C-SCIN) Ministries, a discipleship and accountability ministry where Minister L. W. Washington, Jr. is the president. These songbirds love the Lord with all of their hearts and have decided to sing for God alone, because Jesus Christ is what life -- true life -- is all about.
