We struggle to put a label on this girl, but what we do know about this coming album by Maron, to be titled Uptown, is that you've GOT to hear it. We've thrown around words to describe it like singer/songwriter, urban, and soul; pensive and worshipful, yet rock, real and gritty; with comparisons to Norah Jones and Sheryl Crow; and we still come up short. They're still in pre-production, but we have a feeling that when this is "drops" in March that it will make a big splash.... GRRR RECORDS. Stay tuned for the soon released CD!

Born in 1982 in the south suburbs of Chicago, Maron Gaffron's life began amidst chaos when her birth father died before she was born. Her mother later married a Christian man who adopted Maron when she was two years old. Her father was a guitar player in a Christian rock band that practiced regularly in their family home. As a result, Maron grew up constantly surrounded by music, The first present she remembers receiving was a piano, and she got her first guitar when she was in fourth grade. Her father recognized her talent early on, and as a young girl on into adolescence she sang from time to time with her fathers band.
Maron was raised not only in an atmosphere of music, but also of ministry. Her parents welcomed prodigals into their home both to share the love of Jesus and to help them through rough spots in their lives. She attended church with her family and often sang solos and duets with her mother in the services. From these earliest singing experiences she realized the power of the message of God's love embedded in music, and to this day the message conveyed by her lyrics is of primary importance to her.
While still in high school Maron heard the call of God to become a "missionary of music." After graduation, she decided to move into the Jesus People USA (JPUSA) Christian community located in Chicago. As she continued her spiritual journey at JPUSA, she was inspired to write new songs with depth and insight emanating from the growing pains and lifes lessons she was learning there. After living in community a few years, she married and started a family. While pregnant with her second child, God renewed His call on her to be a "missionary of music." She made demos of several songs in her father's home studio and approached the director of Grrr Records, the in-house label of JPUSA. The rest is about to become history. Maron's daughter was born in May 2005, and the recording of Uptown, her debut album, began in May 2006.
