Bitter Roots (2006)
2007 SILVER ANGEL WINNER

Bitter Roots is a heartrending love story about a middle-aged Christian woman, Claudia Lakes, whose only desire in life is to love and be loved. But she is not free to love because she is haunted by her past; a deep, dark secret buried under a lemon tree in her backyard. But secrets cannot be kept forever....

Taunted and bullied as a child, Claudia suffered from low self-esteem until a family with a young daughter, Olivia, moved in next door. At last, Claudia is no longer lonely. She and Olivia become fast friends. But trouble strikes when Olivia is raped and Claudia is besieged with guilt for not being there to protect her.

About Marion McNair
"BITTER ROOTS": WINNER OF THE 2007 SILVER ANGEL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PRINT MEDIA

I am a licensed evangelist-missionary and sing in the choir at my church.
I love to read, write, and travel. I have traveled extensively. My goal is to travel to all seven continents, three more to go; Asia, Antarctica, and Australia.

I have always loved suspenseful stories. I can recall as a child, how I would sit in the dark and watch the Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Mysteries, or curl up with a good suspense novel. Therefore, it was not a surprise to me or my family that I would write suspense.

My novel, Bitter Roots is a God inspired Christian suspense story of love, betrayal and restoration. Bitter Roots was birthed out of the pain of my past. I began writing letters to God to express my anger and bitterness over my tragic childhood and the devastating failure of my seventeen-year marriage to a minister. I wrote God a letter every single day for two years, asking Him why I had to suffer so much pain. Then one day, I began to write and I heard a voice inside of me say, "Read what you have already written."
I turned to page one, and began reading all of the letters. Afterwards, I said, 'Wow, this would make a great book.' And the voice said, "Write it." Jeremiah 30: 2 "Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book."

It took five years for me to complete Bitter Roots. Most of that time was studying my craft, and working through my anger, hurt, bitterness, pain and fear. As I wrote, and re-wrote scenes, plots, dialogue, and developed my characters, I cried out to God. I went to counseling, and allowed God to take over my life. He healed and restored me. I learned how to forgive my past, and I became clearer in my writing.

Hello Marion, While I understand that the term "Friend" in the social network world merely means "contact person", I take the word "Friend" to heart. I have the power and the choice to be a real friend regardless of what you do or don't do for me.

So I say that I am honored to be considered your Friend. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help bring your dream into reality.

Yours in Service,
Allen Edge, "The Edge of Sanity"

Hey Marion,
Can you believe it's been more than a year since we met in Madison?
How's your daughter doing with her law degree?
How's your son? Still in New York?
My son did move down to Cleveland, GA after all.
I'm going there Tuesday for a visit.
What's new with you?

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.(Psalm 92:1)

Psalm 92 is a "Song for the Sabbath day," a resting place for those who are troubled.

The song begins with a commendation of praise: "It is good to give thanks to the Lord." It does us good to turn from our unsettling and anxious thoughts to declare God's "lovingkindness in the morning, and [His] faithfulness every night" (v.2). God loves us and is always faithful! He makes us glad (v.4).

Praise not only makes us glad, it makes us wise. We begin to understand something of God's greatness and creative design in all that He does (vv.5-9). We gain a wisdom that is hidden from those who do not know God. The wicked may "flourish" and "spring up like grass" for a moment (v.7), but ultimately they will wither away.

The righteous, however, are joined to the One who dwells in eternity (v.8). They "flourish like a palm tree" and "like a cedar in Lebanon" (v.12), symbols of graceful beauty and unbending strength. For they have been "planted in the house of the Lord" (v.13). Their roots go down into the soil of God's faithfulness; they draw on His unquenchable love.

Give thanks and praise to the Lord today!

Shalom,
Annette

"And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague" (Mark 5:34).

Your confidence in God, and His Word, will ensure that nothing is missing or broken in your life. Step out on what God has said, knowing that if you believe it in your heart, it will become your reality.

Hugs,
Annette
