General Interests
Loves: Shopping, Travel, Cooking, Eating ethnic food--you name it, I'll try it at least once. Hanging out with my family and friends, Watching a good movie, Road trips on the back roads, Candles, coffee, chocolate. Curling up with a good book and a warm cat (we have 5 to choose from--cats, not books). The Beach, Bible study, Missions. Hates: Stoopid drivers. Traffic. Bad restaurant service. Slow metabolism. Beets and black olives. Bad movie endings--the movie "Next" comes to mind. I want to rewrite that one.
Music
Third Day, Nicole C. Mullen, Superchick, Christian classics like Petra, Steve Taylor, Whiteheart, etc. Yes, and almost anything 80's. Mostly I listen to music in the car, switching back and forth from KLOVE and a local country station if I'm feeling twangy. I especially love the sound of acoustic guitar. I play--er, used to play--a while ago.
Books
My ACFW buddies' work. I'd leave someone out if I started naming names. :) My favorite author voices range from Brandilyn Collins to Kristin Billerbeck--from shivers up my spine to laughing out loud. Anything that tugs at my heart without melodrama. Once upon a time, though, I discovered the Little House books, then Little Women, and then when I was 11 or 12, a friend of my mother's lent me her Narnia books. I've lost track of the number of times I've read the series, and I still own my first dogeared paperback set. I can't remember the name of the woman who lent me hers, but I owe her many, many thanks. After that I learned to love sci fi, fantasy, romance, suspense/thriller, and mystery books. Mostly it's the story and the characters that pull at me, not a genre label.
Movies/TV
TV: I *was* hooked on Jericho, which IMO was the best new show on TV in 2006. I love the characters, the twists and turns in the story line. The good, the bad, and the ugly. My dh and I DVR'ed it every Wednesday. used to. What's with that, pulling great shows? We also enjoy Journeyman. Not a whole lot else. I'll catch some home improvement shows until I get wistful about remodeling our kitchen. I love documentaries, especially when I'm researching for a book.

A Big Apple Christmas -- September 2007 (2007)
Enjoy a contemporary romance collection of four novellas that capture the sights and sounds of Christmas in New York City. Christmas plans are set askew when a schedule-bound professional organizer meets a free-spirited poet. Holiday bustle is the means two tourists try to use to get lost in the crowds. Christmas in Rockerfeller Center puts a widow's dreams on center stage. The gift of the Magi comes full circle for two lonely Latinos. Romance is in the air from Fifth Avenue to Chinatown, but can faith bring the love home?

My novella Where The Love Light Gleams tells the story of widowed Gwynn Michaud who gets surprised by her children with a trip to NYC--after her spruce in the front yard is selected to be the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. I loved writing this 'mature' heroine, and her gallant hero Dr. Theo Stellakis, a set-in-his-ways professor who doesn't plan on a holiday houseguest.

Bayou Brides (2006)
Four generations return to a cabin in Cajun country to discover their family's secrets of love and redemption. After Capucine Louet is exiled from Nova Scotia and heads for Bayou Teche, she's given a journal while passing through New York City and reconciles with God as she writes. Josee Broussard continues fifty years later, discovering the journal while struggling with her husband's love. Nic LeBlanc returns home looking for familiarity, but the journal broadens his horizons. Justin LeBlanc brings an exclamation point to its last pages, scrawling a proposal that sets the stage for future generations.

-- My novella, Joie de Vivre, follows the story of Josee Broussard. Married off to the brother she didn't choose, Josee learns to choose joy.

I love writing what I call "lunch hour reads."

Brothers of The Outlaw Trail (2006)
Set in the historic Wild West, each of the stories in this collection features one of a band of outlaw brothers, who seek faith in God and true love amid much struggle. Can Reuben Wilson free himself from the mountain of regret he feels for turning his younger brothers into outlaws? Will God help Caleb Wilson create a new life as sheriff of Dime Box, Arizona? Will Colt Wilson administer revenge on the bounty hunter who put him in jail? Will a miracle of God's love transform the life of professional gambler Benjamin Wilson-an outlaw with no use for God?

~ This collection came about after brainstorming with Kathleen Y'Barbo at least three years ago or more. What fun to think up this family! Then we found two other authors who liked the idea, too.

Windswept Weddings (2006)
Wedding bells are ringing, but there are storms on the horizon that may keep everyone from reaching the church. Christine's perfect wedding plans are sorely tested when the worst snowstorm in over a decade hits central Minnesota. Tornado warnings blare on Marie's wedding day, which is great for the storm-chasing best man, but not so great for uniting the bride and groom. As Allie is finishing wedding preparations in Florida and her fiance works in New York, a nasty hurricane bears down on the coast. The wind is changing on Krista's wedding day, sending a wildfire right toward the church. Will these brides find their grooms in the midst of raging storms?

~My novella, Heart's Refuge, is set in northern California during wildfire season. I learned how much I love research while writing this story. At the time, I'd never been to California and depended on resources plus fellow writers in ACFW to help me keep the facts straight.

About Lynette Sowell

I'm a wife, mom, author, medical transcriptionist, women's group leader at church. I love to travel--and I believe reading a good book should be like taking a trip. I believe books can entertain while at the same time offering reflections of God's truth. Sometimes the truth makes us comfortable, and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm a Massachusetts Yankee by birth and adopted Texan now for 15 years. Finally bought my first pickup truck last spring (well, actually it's my hubby's but...) so I guess I've been assimilated. Looking back I see that my life has been a series of transplants. I've learned you can't sink your roots into a place or people. The Lord is the ultimate constant in our lives. I seek to remember that as much as I can. With Him, we always have a home. :)

This March, my first cozy mystery novel, A SUSPICION OF STRAWBERRIES, released from Barbour Publishing's mystery book club called Heartsong Presents: Mysteries. My heroine Andromeda Clark runs a homemade soap shop in Greenburg, Tennessee. A local bride keels over from an apparent allergic reaction to one of the facial scrubs. Of course the police don't believe it was murder. But Andi has, well, a suspicion of strawberries. So she sets out to save her business and find a murderer, while her longtime boyfriend tries to get committment-phobic Andi to the altar.

Right now I'm writing book three, THE PERILS OF PEACHES. I look forwart to book two releasing this fall--THE WILES OF WATERMELON.

I'm thankful for the chance to share my stories. When I was a kid, I didn't realize that not everyone had stories come to them. For me, it just happened.

Hi Lynette! How are you? Wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed ACFW so far. Your advice to get involved there was great. It has been very helpful. I'm learning a lot and hoping to go to the conference. I'm also trying to start an East Texas chapter. We've gathered up 8 people so far. We need 10 to have an official chapter, but we're planning an organizational meeting in early August. We'll see what happens. Please keep us in your prayers!

Blessings,
Kathie

Jesus feeds the five thousand.- Taking the five loaves and the two fishes and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. (Luke 9:16-17). In the name of Jesus, you shall eat ,be satisfy and have left over. Go in peace. Amen.

(Colossians 1:3)
We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you.

O that my life may useful be
As I serve Jesus faithfully;
And may His love be seen in me
This is my earnest prayer.

We don't have to wait in line, enter a building, or wear nice clothing.
We can pour out our hearts to the Lord anytime, anywhere.
Paul always seemed to marvel at the door opened wide into the presence of God.
"In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood
of Christ," he wrote. "For through Him we both [Gentiles and Jews] have access
by one Spirit to the Father" (Eph. 2:13,18).

The door is open for everyone. God welcomes all who come by faith. Through Christ
we can enter His presence anytime and anywhere.
Through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. (Ephesians 2:18)

Anytime, Anywhere;
Let's always keep the prayer lines open,
Knowing God is always there;
For we upon His name may call
Anytime and anywhere.

Blessings,
Annette

Thanks for the encouragement, Lynette. I will definitely look into the Dallas chapter and try to attend some meetings. I need all the help I can get!!!
Kathie C. Moore on 6/16/08 - 10:30 PM
Yes, the Austin area is another beautiful part of Texas. I like that area a lot. Yes, I have joined the ACFW. I think the closest local chapter to me will be in the Dallas area. I've not been to any meetings yet, but look forward to it.
Kathie C. Moore on 6/16/08 - 10:20 PM
I see you live in Texas, too! We are both transplants (I'm from Florida), but I've learned to love it here. We lived in the Dallas area for five years. I didn't love it there. But East Texas is lush and green, with lots of rolling hills - much prettier than Dallas, and much more peaceful. Where in Central Texas are you?
Kathie C. Moore on 6/16/08 - 10:03 PM
Thank you for the welcome and lovely invitation. Your books look like a lot of fun! I look forward to seeing what comes next!

God bless you!

Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises. (Psalm 98:4)

Why do birds sing?

Because their Creator put a song in their hearts. Each bird is
"heaven's high and holy muse," said John Donne, created to draw
our hearts up to our Creator. They are reminders that He has given
us a song that we may sing His praise.

So when you hear God's little hymn birds singing their hearts out,
remember to sing your own song of salvation. Lift up your voice
harmonious, hoarse, or harsh and don't worry if you are off key
just join with them in praise to our Creator, Redeemer, and Lord.

The birds of the air "sing among the branches," Israel's poet observes.
"[Therefore] I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing
praise to my God while I have my being" (Ps. 104:12,33).

Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flowery meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Happy Sabbath
Blessings,
Annette
