MISSION STATEMENT OF JOHN SCHLITT
1. To encourage the Christian to grasp the reality that we are on the winning team. Jesus Christ is alive and through Him we are to be victorious in His perfect plan for us - a plan that was designed for us from the beginning of time (Rom. 8:29)
2. To awaken the unsaved out of their slumber of believing the lies the enemy has used to keep them from the truth - the truth that they are made in the image of God and are designed for a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.
I am a blessed man. I have been saved by a God of second chances. He saved me from suicide and gave me a second chance at life. He protected my family and gave me a second chance at being a husband and father. And, finally, he gave me a second chance in music. He took me from a secular system that was destroying me through drug and alcohol abuse and put me in a Christian band that gave me the opportunity to see God work all over the world.
In the time I have been a Christian, God has continued to put two simple yet life changing messages on my heart - Jesus Christ is alive and wants to come into our hearts to give us eternal life. And, secondly, Jesus Christ has given us everything we need to not just survive but to be victorious!
The Word says that there is a war going on for each one of us - a war in the heavenlies. I see this war taking form in the constant attempts to distort and discredit the character and the ways of God.
In closing, I believe as Christians it is our calling and duty to battle these lies with truth. At every opportunity we need to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ with whatever tool we are given. In my life, it is through the music I sing and sharing my testimony and experiences.

Unfit for Swine (1996)
Following closely on the heels of "SHAKE," "UNFIT FOR SWINE" made its debut in 1996. A very diverse album musically, "SWINE" showcases John's versatility as a vocalist, with elements of alternative and modern rock in a surprising blend that rages with intensity and drive.

3. Can't Get Away
4. We Worship You
5. Need I Remind You
6. Take You On

9. I Killed A Man
10. Don't Have To Take It
Shake (1995)
After 10 years as frontman for Petra, John ventured forth with his first solo album, "SHAKE," in 1995. Amidst rumors of his leaving Petra, it was made perfectly clear that John not only would remain with Petra, but that he was fully capable of pursuing a solo career simultaneously - a feat no other lead singer in the Christian industry had ever attempted. John not only made the attempt - but he excelled at it.
1. Wake The Dead
2. Don't Look Back
3. Show Me The Way
4. Inside Of You
5. Let It Show
6. Carry The Burden
7. One By One
8. Try Understanding His Heart
9. The Hard Way
10. The Road To Calvary
John Schlitt began singing when he was just five years old, performing the leads in recitals and plays in his school. It soon became clear that a career in music was in John's future. He finished college with a degree in civil engineering and promptly set about making a name for himself in the world of rock 'n roll. His unique, fiery tenor and unbridled passion for singing landed him a gig fronting the group Head East.
In 1980 he was let go by the band. The reason: John had an out-of-control drug and alcohol addiction.
Through the witness of his wife, Dorla, and their pastor, John accepted Christ as Savior and friend. He resolved to live for God and even forsake music, if that was what God ordered. He ended up looking for practical work to support his family, starting from scratch. But God wasn't done with him musically. In fact, it turned out that John's days in Head East were a precursor to something greater. Five years after firmly putting music behind him, God called John back to fronting the Christian rock band Petra.
John Schlitt officially joined Petra in 1986, bringing with him his amazing vocal range and abilities that made him a legend with Head East. Except this time, his mind was no longer blown on drugs and alcohol - he was clean, focused, and armed with a powerful message: God made us to be winners - Jesus Christ is alive and through Him we are to be victorious in His perfect plan for us.
This perfect plan continues on for John, releasing "Vertical Expressions" in 2007 with Bob Hartman as "II Guys from Petra," and also a third solo release, "The Grafting," in 2008.

It was sooo great to see you the other day John. I always smile as it brings back sooo many memories with you and the gang on tour and your graciousness on the road years ago. May God continues to speak clearly to you and surround you with people who will celebrate your life and who you are as a man of God. :)

I just wanted to thank you and all the guys from Petra for being there for me when I first got saved. I couldn't stand "normal" christian music and the group was one of the few. I saw Petra in Salem OR in probably 1983, I think it was the Out Of This World Tour and I remember they wouldn't let the group set up the pyro. I raised my hand that night.
Hi John, I hope you like the song "Forevermore" & Tell Me . . . powerful love song written by a christian band "Side A".... it actually became no. 1 hit in the Philippines.
John,
Thanks for the add. Petra has been a major influence on my music for many years. I'm glad to see how God is continuing to use your ministry! God bless you!
Bruce

The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord let His Face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace.
The Lord bless you!
It truly is a wonderful festival. Not like others..best part is it is FREE!!!!! It is more like a relaxing weekend of renewal. Very intimate and incredible opportunity for fellowship.
Good clean fun....and at an incredible facility in the country!!!
Thanks for adding us as a friend. It means a lot to have people care about our music. We just posted a new song called "Eyes On The Prize." It's actually a remake of a very old song that has been sung throughout American history by people who refused to be blinded by the systems of slavery, violence, greed, or injustice. You can also watch the first video on our site. It is the same song, only sung by one of our musical heroes - Mavis Staples. You'll love it!
Peace to Your Community,
