Developing Treasures Within (2008)
International Christian Model, April Barr, shares her passion for women to grow in all that God has for them.

"It's a game many of us have played--the game of comparing ourselves to magazine images," April shared.

Ironic, because April has actually been the image on some of those magazines before. April has appeared on magazines such as Glamour, Vogue, Seventeen, Modern Bride and more.

Yet, April discovered her dream job of modeling, and chasing after fame and fortune, didn't increase her self-worth.

From Despair to Purpose (2008)
"Back in the '80s, I ended up sitting next to Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. I wondered what on earth I'm supposed to do with my life--and how can she help me?

"I imagined if anyone knew the secret to heeding God's voice, she must..."

Dr. Katie Brazleton's dramatic journey to understand God's purpose for her life.

A Christmas Past (2007)
Tyson's Corner, Va., now a vibrant suburb of Washington, D.C., was a quiet, rural town in the 1960s. Besides farmland, it boasted a local beer joint, a gas station, and one flashing red light. Tyson's Corner is where Edith Adams, a destitute young mother of two boys --Randy, 4, and Clayton, 6 months --found herself at Christmastime.

Enjoy this Christmas vignette about how the Salvation Army brought renewed hope to this young family.

Purpose for Women (2007)

Eternal Impact of Mentoring (2006)
A youthful woman stood to her feet in the crowded room. In her British accent, she exclaimed, "I just came here because my friend brought me here tonight. I was raised Catholic, and my dad insisted I get down on my knees and pray...so now I don't pray, and I don't want to be prayed for."

The young newlywed was one of many women who attended an orientation coffee sponsored by Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA.

A (Random) Glimpse Into My Life

I'm convinced I was born with the desire to express my thoughts through written words.

As writers, don't you love how we can edit--in real time--the very words we write?

I can't count the times I wanted to backspace and delete what slipped out of my mouth. No wonder I'm a better writer than I am a speaker.

My passion for writing flourished as my small hand curved comfortably around my first pen. Poetry, narrative essay, and secret journals consumed my young life.

Today, I write because I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. I long for the sustaining comfort I have received from God to overflow into the lives of many people.

In The Message (NavPress 2002), Eugene Peterson understands how I feel. In his paraphrase of 2 Cor 1:4 he shares how God, "comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us."

I care deeply about the overwhelming issues that confront women daily: health, parenting, relationships, broken families, addiction, abuse, and more.

There is hope! And, through my writing, I desire to share the hope that offers insight, practical application and Jesus' healing love and restoration to those in need.

My deep-rooted faith convinces me that God has a purpose in allowing pain into our lives. We discover the purpose of our life experiences is greater than the pain of our trauma -- only as we surrender the pain to God and allow Him to use it as He desires.

I don't convey that message lightly. I understand there is horrific pain in our world. I, too, have survived tremendous personal pain. Yet, it fuels my desire to reach out and bring comfort to the heart of others.

More than anything I write because I am called to write. And, as a child of God, I'm thankful that He reached down from on high and made me a writer.

I'm also thankful that He has richly blessed me with an amazing family: A compassionate and loving husband, a beautiful daughter, four vivacious step-daughters, a supportive mother, as well as an abundance of priceless family members and friends.

I love my sometimes crazy, always passionate, and supernaturally creative life.

Warmly,
Jo Ann

My New Heart   7/30/2008 - 2:39 PM
I sat up straight, concern growing, as Malea, the RN, taped five small patches to my chest. My eyes followed her hands as she connected me to what looked like a small cassette player. Malea leaned over, handing me the portable heart monitor. "Don'... (login or sign up to read more)

Genuine contentment comes for us, as Christians, only as we live out God's purpose in our lives. Yet, a complete surrender to the mission God plans for us evokes fear in the heart of many. Our selfish desires wrestle with the goodness of God. C... (login or sign up to read more)

Yes'm...on Facebook and Twitter, too.

Only way I can make time for all three (and sometimes MySpace, too) is by using my trusty li'l Pampered Chef timer. I set it for 5 minutes, do my thing, and when it beeps, I move to the next. In 30 minutes, I've updated all these sites AND read/answered email.

I do that 2-3x a day, depending on how my day is going. So far, so good.

Have a super weekend, m'dear!
