The JBDS Foundation is now officially incorporated and working toward Non-Profit or Charitable status.
Jimmy is Founder & CEO of JBDSF. He started the Foundation so he and his family can work with some of the brightest stars of all, people with Down Syndrome and Special Needs who are superstars in their own right. He is a man on a mission, putting it on the line for these beautiful people. He is a Level One Special Olympics National Coach.
Jimmy and his beloved wife have 7 beautiful children including their son Josiah (9), who has Down Syndrome. According to the specialists, he was to die in the womb. Instead, Josiah arrived on time but needing surgery to repair a hole in his heart (Ventrical Septal Defect - VSD) at 3.5 months old. Josiah's life is a blessing and the impetus for future plans before and after the World Record. Through the JBDS Foundation, Jimmy and his family desire to travel the world, airbag in hand, performing highfalls of all kinds, crashing cars and executing full body fireburns in order to raise funds and awareness of Down Syndrome and to help people with DS achieve the fullest life possible.
One of the goals for The JBDS FOUNDATION is raising funds for corrective heart surgery. About 40 to 50 percent of babies with Down Syndrome have heart defects. Some defects are minor and may be treated with medications, while others may require surgery. Many countries around the world do not have a health care system or hospital facilities which provide surgery like this at no charge to the parents. This is an expensive, specialized surgery and many parents around the world can not afford it. Our dream is to supply the finances so that kids with DS can have this life saving surgery at a Children's Hospital and live a long, prosperous, productive life. This would also include the cost for the parent(s) to fly in and stay with their child at the hospital.
Jimmy B. is currently in the process of organizing a World Record Highfall of 350 feet from a helicopter to an airbag, preferably in his hometown of Toronto at the Skydome to raise funds for DS. He is contacting potential sponsors world wide for the purpose of aiding in the construction of a custom airbag. Then he would like to break the 400 foot mark at a later date. Maybe into ALCATRAZ FEDERAL PENITENTIARY. In 1979, at 14 years old, he watched famous Hollywood Stuntman Dar Robinson set the current World Record of 311 feet performing that very stunt. The proceeds will go to helping people with Down Syndrome(DS). Dar made a lasting impact on his life as did Spanky Spangler for their stunts on "That's Incredible". J.B. says,"Evel Knievel's motorcycle jumps were amazing to watch as a kid. When the world watched Knievel, it was always LIVE on television. It was a big extravaganza. He did over 300 jumps. In my neighbourhood I would set up my ramp and jump over kids and garbage cans. He is one of the reason's why I became a Stuntman. His courage and skill made an impact on me and he has influenced many of the Stuntmen and Daredevils of today". Mr. Knievel passed away Nov. 30 2007 at age 69.
Ky Michaelson The Rocketman , has offered his help on the world record project. He and Dar Robinson were best friends and together they pioneered and executed some of Hollywood's biggest all time gags in the late 70's early 80's. Dar passed away in November 1986. Ky who is an engineer and stuntman himself designed and built the air bag with Dar and together in 1979 they set the current World Record from a helicopter which still stands today. Ky has a daughter with Special Needs.
Another goal is to race in the BAJA 250, 500 & 1000 for Down Syndrome. The prize money will be donated to DS. To race in the Baja has been another dream of Jimmy's since he was a kid. His 4 boys want to be race car drivers so he has stepped out in faith by starting a family racing tradition and needs a 1600 cc, 69 & up VW Bug to enter in Class 11 which is the bottom class entry level and the cheapest way to start. The Bug stays stock, doors open and close, engine and tranny stock, no beefed up suspension. The only modification is a role cage built to Score International specs. Jimmy and his family will start at the bottom and work their way up to more powerful race machines. If you would like to help Jimmy get a car please contact him. Jimmy has been entertaining audiences around the world since 1991 by appearing in over 90 features, television series, movies of the week, pilots, commercials and live shows as a Vancouver Stunt Coordinator and Stuntman, but you've rarely seen his face. He has worked with Jackie Chan, Harrison Ford, Will Smith and stunt doubled some of Hollywood's biggest stars, on some of Hollywood's biggest productions and with some of the finest stunt veterans and rookies in film. As a Fall Guy he takes a beating doing stair falls, bullet hits, fight scenes, high falls, car hits, etc... and loves every moment. He is a Member of The Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall Of Fame - not an inductee, and is on the Board of Advisors.
At 3 years old Jimmy began entertaining the neighbours on his three wheel plastic pedal tractor and by 6 years old had developed a burning desire to become a professional stuntman. When it came to playing sports, his drive and determination coupled with his athletic skills made him the "go-to guy" which won him and his teammates many victories. At 17, after being mezmerized by the dance moves in the Motion Picture "BREAKIN", he immersed himself in learning the body mechanics of Breaking, then put into practice the repititous movements and became a Break Dance Champion, having mastered the intricate physical movements of Uprock, Electric Boogie, Floor Work, Waves, Pop N Lock... Boogyin to the beat was his life.
At 21 he trained for several years 6 days a week in the ancient combat battle system of Classical Shaolin 5 Animal Kung Fu and Yang Style Tai Chi under world renowned Chinese Master Kwok Chu Chan, after seeing his first Bruce Lee movie on 42nd St. in New York City. Jimmy had studied other martial arts and searched trying to find a genuine Chinese Master. Master Chan had escaped from China some 15 years previous and brought with him old style Kung Fu. The training was extreme, weapons, hand to hand combat, toughening of fists, forearms, legs, water colour painting... Few students stayed long. Jimmy flourished in this environment, endured and became the only student left. The club closed. He trained one on one with Sifu at his house and with his children for two more years. Learning traditional Kung Fu is both physically and mentally demanding, yet Jimmy persevered and became a Teacher. This was the final piece which prepared his mind and body to become a Stuntman. Later he worked with Jackie Chan. "To be successful in life you have to learn how to mentally deal with the physical pain and on the contrary you must also learn to deal physically with the mental pain. Somedays you have to will yourself out of bed, be brave and move forward when life has you down. You have to drive yourself" - J.B.
In a devastating and apparent career-ending injury in 1998 the ACL, LCL and PCL ligaments were torn off the bone in his knee and the tibea plateau was fractured which meant a possible amputation. The leg was mangled and five of the finest surgeons said, "career over". After 11 days of waiting the 2.5 hour surgery commenced. The ligaments were re-attached and bone was sawed from his hip to replace the crushed tibea plateau. The surgery was a big success but the doctors and physiotherapists still agreed his career was over and he would be behind a desk for life. But Jimmy had other plans, to trust the Lord, and made up his mind to re-learn how to walk, jump, run, skate and return as a Stuntman. It was an excruciatingly painful and slow process. But after two years of gruelling physio and by God's grace, he made "The Comeback" to full mobility with no limp and picked up his stunt career where he left off, having paid the price. In the process he discarded a wheel chair, crutches, his grandfathers cane and finally a custom leg brace. All were amazed....they said it couldn't be done.
Rigourous physical exercise keeps his mind and body razor sharp. Jimmy gives thanks to the Lord for all the skills He has given him, including an eye to detail. J.B. was born to be a Stuntman and all round action man. His love for edge of your seat action has been apparent since birth.

As a Motivational Speaker with Destiny Management Group, Jimmy's desire is to open the eyes of the mind, so the young people can see with clarity, the false attraction, emptiness and devastating consequences of substance abuse. He wants to encourage people to conquer their fears and reach their dreams. "You will never move ahead in life with your full potential when your mind and body are handicapped with illegal substances and alcohol. You think you are doing fine, but you are not. You are only fooling yourself. I have been there. Take the ball and chain off your brain."
Born in Toronto to a 14 year old mother, fatherless, then leaving home at 16 having not finished grade 10, Jimmy learned how to survive the streets and graduated from the school of hard knocks. He has learned to make something out of nothing. He has lived the highs and lows of life, having been dragged through the gutter, hitting the bottom of the barrel mired down in 17 years of substance abuse which began at 11 years old. By the age of 15 he was dealing drugs... to fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a Stuntman, then subsequently became a Stunt Coordinator. In 1993 J.B. became a Christian and his heart, mind and life became Unshackled!, when Jesus crushed the chains of drug addiction and transformed his life, forever. He was never the same again (2 Corinthians 5:17) and became a man on fire on the movie sets having been given a ministry of reconciliation. His story is one of determination and perseverance against enourmous odds.
"There isn't anything you can't do. But you must learn how to learn, apply yourself, face your internal fears, take calculated risks, learn from your mistakes, take the shots, dust yourself off and keep moving forward when you don't think you can or when all the signs and people say it's over. I have learned this the hard way, from personal experience". When someone gives you lemons, make lemonade. If you wait until all the circumstances of life are perfect and all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place you will never get anything started. I have learned this invaluable lesson. Don't wait for others to hire you. Start your own company and hire yourself. The only person that can stop you, is yourself." - J.B.
Jimmy wasted 17 years of his life in a drug induced state having developed a one track mindset of substance abuse 24/7/365. When he does something, he gives it his all. He has seen many lives ruined and watched friends & family die. A cousin whom he was close to and used with, overdosed on heroine and died. A drug addict buddy was checked into the Insane Asylum. Others have commited suicide or been incarcerated into prison. "It's up to you to break the cycle. One person can make a difference. That one person is you." Jimmy is making up for lost time. As an Entrepreneur he has begun or is in the process of beginning several ventures from scratch with family in mind which include a Landscaping Company 5 years ago.
Jimmy brings a message to the corporate world of perseverance under pressure. That even when others tell you that it is all over, you do not have to give up. His use of clips of his world renowned stunts along with his ability to start your program off with his appearance on stage "on fire" makes for a dramatic and eye-catching opening to his presentation. Jimmy will captivate your audience with his tales of stunts gone wrong, his story of life's difficulties growing up, his effort to get back when others told him to give up and the new journey in his life, dealing with his son's Down Syndrome.
That same enthusiasm is displayed when Jimmy speaks to schools on the lessons learned in dealing with addictions he faced. The message of making right choices resonates with young people as they become enthralled with his stunt spectacular past. Jimmy is also a welcome sight at local church events, retreats and from the pulpit where he tells the impact the Lord had on his life as he struggled through the addictions he faced and his past life adventures.
