I write in several genres, (contemporary Christian fiction, inspirational romance, romance novellas, cozy mystery, historical fiction, non-fiction devotions, non-fiction Christian living, musical comedies for the stage and even magazine articles) so it's hard to compare myself to anyone else. I'd like to say I write like some of my amazing friends (like Nancy Jo Jenkins, for example, or author Linda Nichols), but (alas) it ain't so. I'm probably most similar to... me. :)
|
|
I'm nuts about writing, but I also love lots of other things, like worship music, spending fun/quality time with my family, watching reality TV shows and girly movies, and having lunch with my writing buddies and long-time friends! I adore my new granddaughter (Madysen Lynae) and have an addiction to my two mini dachshunds, Sasha and Copper. (They even make appearances in many of my books.) I attend a local Christian writing group (Words for the Journey) and have a blast with my new Bible study group (Babes with a Beattitude). I currently attend a great church called Woods Edge in The Woodlands, TX. When I'm not busy with all of that, I'm planning weddings. I've been the "mother of the bride" THREE times now, and still have one daughter left to marry off!
|
|
I LOVE Chris Tomlin. In fact, I love almost ALL worship music. Mercy Me is a favorite. So is Matt Redman. I adore most everything by Casting Crowns, as well. And Kathryn Scott. And Marty Goetz.

I'm crazy about a zillion books, but particularly love anything by Linda Nichols, especially AT THE SCENT OF WATER and IN SEARCH OF EDEN. I'm also crazy about Kristin Billerbeck's chick-lit and all of the SISTER CHICKS books by Robin Jones Gunn.

I'm an American Idol fan, but haven't been as excited about this season (with one HUGE exception: Melinda Dolittle. . .WOW!!!) Other favorite TV shows include: Extreme Home Makeover, Project Runway, Top Chef, America's Next Top Model, "Grease" Auditions, SuperNanny, Wife Swap and almost anything on HGTV. Some of my favorite movies include: The Sound of Music, Life is Beautiful, Pride and Prejudice and Anne of Green Gables.

The best laid plans of brides and men go awry when Annie Peterson's future son-in-law Scott disappears. Have pre-wedding jitters caused Brandi's fiance to take flight, or are more sinister forces at work? Surely Annie can solve the riddle. But who could be behind this apparent kidnapping caper? Maybe the drug company Scott works for has hidden motives. Perhaps it's the handiwork of Otis, Scott's deceitful dad. But then again it could be the shady wedding photographer, or the "political enemies" of Scott's mother. Will Annie solve the mystery and recover the missing groom, or will she suffer "regrets only"? Parenting Teens: A Field Guide (2006)
Some parenting books assume your teenager is every parent's dreeam-well behaved, strong in faith, and a straight-A stendent. Others imply that your teen is a living nightmare-always in trouble, without beliefs or values, and destined to work in a convenience store. Thompson knows that even within the same family teens may be hot, lukewarm or even cold, especially in their faith. Without judgment or condemnation, Thompson introduces you to blblicat "tour guides"-men and women from the Bible chosen as examples of disobedience and subsequent 20/20 hindsight, or for their holy and productive lives lived openly before the Lord. You'll be amazed at the powerful way these real-life examples can be applied to the rough issues today's kids face. Get the hope and help you need and bodly enter the wilderness of parenting teens with this survival guide.

Duty to Die (2000)
Duty to Die, a "what-if" fictional thriller set in the not-too-distant future, comes almost too close for comfort in a society lacking a sanctity for life. Can death be packaged in such a way that it actually begins to look like a viable option for those in distress? If so, what will the consequences be for the elderly, terminally ill, and disabled? Duty to Die attempts to answer all of these questions. The story is shockingly close to reality: Congress has enacted the "Duty to Die" law, forcing euthanasia on wide groups of children and adults who find themselves meeting the definition of "defective" according to the new law. A frightened young woman with a terminal illness, a new mother with a baby born with birth defects, a young man marked with HIV, and others fight against all odds. The "Duty to Die" law interferes with the rights guaranteed every American citizen in the Fourteenth Amendment. But who has the courage to fight this injustice? How can the raging tide be turned in time to save innocent lives?

WHO I AM
My name is Janice Thompson. I'm a Christian freelance author of novels, non-fiction books, magazine articles and musical comedies for the stage. I also work as a freelance editor through my Writers GPS site (www.writersgps.com). I've got great prices on e-courses and editing, so check it out!
I live in the Houston area, where the heat and humidity tend to reign, regardless of the season. I'm the mother of four beautiful daughters, (Randi, Courtney Rae, Megan and Courtney Elizabeth. Yes, I really do have two daughters named Courtney! Long story...) I also have the prettiest granddaughter any Nana could hope for - Madysen Lynae! Our family is extremely active in local ministry. (Well, Maddie isn't exactly "active" yet, but I'm believing she will be someday!) My oldest daughter, Randi, is a worship leader/singing in the Houston area, Courtney Rae leads worship at her church in Montana, Megan heads up the pre-school department in a Houston-area church and Courtney Elizabeth sings on the worship team at her church in Michigan. I'm thrilled to have four grown daughters who love the Lord (and a granddaughter who one day will)! I have two grandbabies on the way, so keep them in your prayers!
WHAT I DO
I'm a writer by trade, but (as I mentioned above) wear many other hats, as well. Currently, I spend a lot of my time working as a freelance editor and a ghostwriter.
I enjoy public speaking (promoting books, or teaching from the Bible). For a list of my speaking topics, visit my website at: www.janiceathompson.com. I homeschooled my four daughters (for eleven years) carrying them each through to graduation.
I've written a lot of homeschool curriculum, particularly for kids interested in creative writing and/or drama. I taught drama and creative writing for several years at a Christian school of the arts. I've also directed a youth choir and stayed active in the home-school community (including public speaking to local home-school groups). I directed the "Out There! Drama Ministry" - a group of artists in their teens and twenties who traveled the globe presenting the gospel message through the arts. I am passionate about my faith and do all I can to share the joy of the Lord with others, which is why I particularly enjoy writing.
WHY I WRITE
I've been writing since childhood. In fact, the first novel I remember crafting was in the sixth grade. I had consumed every Bobbsey Twins book on the shelves and ached for another one, so I created a new adventure for the characters I had grown to love. Of course, I was far too young to understand the concept of plagiarism at that time! I started writing "seriously" in the early 90's. Since then, I've been blessed to have nearly fifty articles published, along with several novels.
