Praying for Your Prodigal Daughter--Hope, Help, & Encouragement for Hurting Parents (2008)
Many Christian parents throw up their hands or suffer from guilt based parenting...neither of which helps their prodigal daughter. Based on author's own testimony of praying for over six years for her former prodigal daughter, Kim, Janet Thompson gives hope to parents in what may seem like a hopeless situation.

Janet came from a line of prodigal daughters, and she herself had her backsliding days after accepting Christ at the age of eleven and then living life her own way as a divorced single parent for seventeen years. When she rededicated her life to the Lord, married a godly man, and entered seminary, Janet thought for sure her daughter would want to live the Christian life too. But during her wayward years, Janet was not a good role model for her only daughter, Kim, who started on her own prodigal journey at age seventeen.

Praying for Your Prodigal Daughter chronicles Janet's realization that only God could bring back her daughter and the journey of praying daily for Kim's salvation and God's will to be done in her life. Their story, as told by Janet and Kim, of God's redemption in both of their lives, along with the stories of many praying mother's and former prodigal daughters, will give hope and encouragement to hurting parents of prodigal daughters. Janet also shares practical tips to help parents and families cope with the trauma of having a prodigal daughter or sibling.

Each chapter has discussion question designed for use as a family or support group, and Janet encourages families to pray and receive support together. There is also space to journal and cry out to the Lord at the end of each chapter. In the appendix is a section on praying scripture titled "Forty Days of Praying for Your Prodigal Daughter" and a Prayer and Praise Journal.

No matter where you are in the breast cancer journey, you need someone who understands. You need a trusted friend to walk along beside, someone who's gone before you. You'll find that friend between the pages of this book. It will be your mentor, recordkeeper, journal, devotional, prayer guide and friend.

Janet Thompson has been on the breast cancer journey and she had the opportunity to write for her breast cancer sisters the book she longed to have. Makes a great gift.

About Janet Thompson
The name of my ministry and my life's mission is About His Work Ministries. I founded the Woman to Woman Mentoring Ministry at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA twelve years ago and wrote the resource "Woman to Woman Mentoring How To Start, Grow, and Maintain a Mentoring Ministry" (LifeWay, 2000)to help other churches start mentoring ministries. Mentoring is the theme that runs through all of my speaking and writing. It's sharing those been there done that experiences and with God's help you made it through and you can help others do the same. So when I had breast cancer five years ago I wrote a book to encourage others from my own experiences--"Dear God, They Say It's Cancer A Companion Guide for Women on the Breast Cancer Journey" (Howard Books a div of Simon and Shuster 2006). My most recent book mentors hurting parents of prodigal daughters. It is based on the journey my own daughter and I took away from God and then back into His arms--"Praying for Your Prodigal Daughter Hope, Help, and Encouragement for Hurting parents" (Howard Books a div of S&S 2/5/08).

I feel that God does not let us go through experiences just for our own character building. He is going to put someone in our path going thru something similar and He wants us to teach them what we have learned and give them hope that He will bring them through the situation just like he did us.

I am married to a wonderful, godly man and have ten incredible grandchildren to whom I am Grammie. I love this season of life and often say that God saved the best for last!

I am a full time author, speaker, wife, and grammie and I love walking in the morning with my friends and hanging out at our mountain cabin where I often go to write. I am so glad I have the Lord guiding my life and I want to help others find that peace that passes all understanding.
