Evangelist James McMickin was born on March 27, 1966 in Russellville,
AL. He attends New Beginnings Church Of God (Independent) in Haleyville, AL. This church was birthed in the early 1970s from a cottage prayer meeting started by his mother, Bernice McMickin, in the home of the late Gracie Stults, and is currently pastored by James' brother, Paul McMickin. Recently, in November 2009, James and his sister Norma felt the Divine Mandate to return to work in this church. James teaches adult Sunday School when he isn't traveling in the ministry. He has known of his call into the ministry since he was a toddler, and he sang in nursing homes and churches when he was hardly more than a toddler. He preached his first sermon March 26, 1978, when he was only one day shy of 12 years old. He received the ministry of songwriting in January, 1986, and has written 115 songs as of this writing. He has preached and sang in 35 states, three Canadian provinces, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, and Sri Lanka. He plays the piano, bass, drums, guitar, and "sort of" plays the mandolin and harmonica. He is currently planning his 12th Southern Gospel recording. He has been a full-time evangelist since January 1, 1989, and continues to go far and wide wherever God opens the doors. He has always operated on a free-will offering basis. There are currently invitations to Ghana and back to Sri Lanka to be accepted in God's timing and as He supplies the need.
