Glorifying God while sharing our experience of living with Asperger's as part of our family. JAKE is a continued effort to learn as much as possible about aspies and how we can help them live daily in this world, in their way.
Asperger's Syndrome (AS) is a developmental neurobiological disorder characterized by major difficulties in social interaction. Kids with AS lack understanding of human relationships and the rules of social conversation. Their inability to adapt to change cause these individuals high anxiety and makes them emotionally vulnerable. Aspies are often average to above average in intelligence. They worry obsessively when they do not know what to expect. They are easily overwhelmed by the smallest of change, They may not like physical contact and they talk at people not to people. They have a hard time with conversation unless it is centered around one of their interest. They are bullied frequently by both kids and adults. They will react to the anxiety these type situations cause in a violent explosive behavior from time to time. It is crucial that you realize that Aspies are not trying to cause problems, they are trying to function in our world. They live in our world, but in their own way. An Asperger's diagnosis is a great thing because now we can know how to help! Asperger's is so misunderstood as well as the Aspies themselves. We want to help as many as we can gain a knowledge of Asperger's and the people it affects. Let us help you!

Please read Daniel Chapter 3 in the Bible. Realize that even in the fire the Lord is with you. He will pull you from this fire and you will not even smell of smoke!
