I guess you mean contemporary Christian authors. I really like Eugene Peterson, Philip Yancey, Stephen Lawhead, Alan Hirsch, CS Lewis, Rob Bell, and likely others but I can't think of them right now. :-)

So, as an author, am I obligated to say I'm one of my favorite authors? LOL. Anyhow, I really like to read John MacArthur, Priscilla Shirer, Charles Spurgeon, Kay Arthur, John Bevere, Ann Graham Lotz, etc. Will be praying for you as you venture out into new territory here... jen

Stormie,
I just discovered an author new to me, Ann Tatlock. I just read and wrote an endorsement for her upcoming book. Her's what I had to say: "EVERY SECRET THING by Ann Tatlock is a warm, honest, intimate story of many hearts entwined. PLUS the story had enough of the unexpected to keep me turning the pages and wanting to get back to the story when life interrupted my reading time. Touching and not predictable." No, I am not related to Ann! Or working for her publisher!

You also must stock Francine Rivers, Angela Hunt, Liz Curtis Higgs, Sharon Dunn, and I could go on and on! Keep me posted on your progress. You have a noble ambition.

Hey Stormie, I am older so my taste might not be the demographic you are looking for but here it goes.

I will buy just about anything by Elisabeth Elliot, Anne Graham-Lotz, Bodie Thoene (fiction), Amy Carmichael, FF Bruce or John MacAruthor.

Because of my philosophy of belief, I support Messianic writings.

I tend to buy just about anything put out by Kay Author (I love her ministry and could listen to her all day long) and well written books on the subjects of creation science, homes-school support and word study aids (study aids in general I guess).

What a brave endeavor, may the favor of God guide you.

Deborah... discovering treasure on her shelves while looking to see how Johnny Mac spells his name and agonizing over not adding Edith Schaffer or her husband since I did include Amy Carmichael)

I love quite a few that are well-known: Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Max Lucado, Josh MacDowell, Rick Warren, Charles Swindoll, Frank Peretti, Oswald Chambers. In the past few months, though, I have 'discovered' the Lost Genre Guild and expect some great things from them as more people become acquainted with them and Christian Speculative Fiction. By now, probably everyone who knows me knows that I have become a huge fan of Frank Creed's Flashpoint, even if it is really more of a guy book. The Lost Genre Guild's anthology, Light at the Edge of Darkness, is probably a definitive work in speculative fiction, although I have heard that Coach Culbertson's Coach's Midnight Diner is a great spec fic anthology as well (haven't read it). I absolutely loved M. L. Tyndall's trilogy--The Redemption, The Reliance, and The Restitution. Best pirate stories EVER!! Speaking of pirates, George Brian Polivsky did a great job with The Legend of the Firefly and The Hand That Bears the Sword. Molly Noble Bull's historic novels are qutie good also. Oh, and Donita K. Paul, Brian Davis, and Thomas Batson for fantasy and young adult. I haven't read Patrick Oden's book that Kerry mentioned, but from the reviews and my conversations with Patrick, I expect that it is quite good, but quite different.

My taste in Authors is pretty broad. As far as Christian fiction, my top picks are Karen Kingsbury, Jeanette Oke, Bodie and Brock Thoene, and Frank Peretti. Christian non fiction, I'd have to say Bishop T.D Jakes. As far as secular authors Dr. Phil McGraw, and Maya Angelou. Especially since Dr. Phil and Bishop Jakes have done shows together.

My husband and I read across many genres, plus I am a writer and librarian, so I will just suggest a few highlights suited for a bookstore. Unveiling Islam by Ergun and Emir Caner, all of the Dearest Dorothy books by Charlene Ann Baumootsy pootsy (humorous fiction), Yada Yada Prayer Group: a novel by Neta Jackson, all books by C.S. Lewis, 90 minutes in Heaven by Cec Murphey and many of his other books, Girl Meets God, Stained Glass Pickup (devotional by my friend Cathy Messecar), you can see that the list is limitless. You might want to buy "Indelible Ink" which lists books that influenced 22 Christian leaders. Best wishes, Terra terragarden.blogspot.com

I like gobs of writers and their writing. But Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite modern-day secular author. Some of her books scare me to death. Still, I keeping reading whatever she writes.
Love,
Molly

A new author who is writing the Christian Concepts Series which he describes as Traditional Truth-Contemporary Perspectives. His name is Robert Lloyd Russell and his first book, "Thy Will Be Done On Earth" is very different in the way the material is presented and it is very easy to read, yet profound. It is the type of book that you can spend either 5 minutes at a time or hours of reading and deep reflection. I have decided to post a more detailed book review of it very soon.
