I'm Roseanna, editor for WFP and also a freelancer. I've been doing editing officially since I graduated from college in 2004, though in practice much longer. I've always been one of those grammatical-gurus, able to quote a rule of mechanics on demand (or else look it up really quickly;-), so this was a natural step for me.
Since most editors charge horrific fees, I figured I'd be a breath of a fresh air. I only charge $2/pg (double spaced, single sided, 12 pt font), with a minimum of $20. Don't get me started on my competitors' prices. . . let's just say I couldn't afford them, so I didn't see why anyone else would want to.
What have I done? Well, my first client is a die-hard self-publisher who's put out three of his own books that I've helped him on. My most prolific client is a travel writer with the articles I've edited printed in a dozen or so travel magazines. One of my favorites won several awards for the short-stories and novel I worked with him on. The best compliment I get is that my clients always come back--and tell their friends. I work on academic papers, short stories, essays, articles, non-fiction books, novels, queries, proposals . . . you name it, I've done it.
Here on ShoutLife I intend to provide frequent editing tips for everyone out there working on a story, a paper, or even just a letter--just little reminders about some of the most frequently mistaken grammar rules, etc.
