Life, mostly. Although my favorite fiction is "Lord of the Rings," I wouldn't even try to write like Tolkien. I want to find the "voice" the Lord has given me.

The Bible. I read a lot of non-fiction, from books on writing to devotionals to books on theology. For fiction, I'm currently reading some YA books... checking out the competition. ;) My favorite work of fiction is still "Lord of the Rings."

I don't watch too much television, but my daughter and I enjoy watching Drake and Josh together. I like all kinds of movies, from action to romantic comedies, but I don't like getting scared anymore, and I don't like having to block out offensive language or turn my head during explicit scenes. Just give me a real good story!

None yet. But I co-edited an on-line science fiction /fantasy/horror magazine called "Electric Wine" from 1999 to 2001. We published just one of my short stories, called "Broken Cadence," which was the first thing I wrote after becoming a Christian. After four years of not writing fiction, I began again with my Stiles County novels. I have been told by a professional critique service, that all I lack now is an agent. Praise God.

Hi! I'm Diana, and that handsome fellow in the picture is "Freddie." I am a follower of Jesus Christ! I say that up front because nothing else seems as important. I'm also a wife and the mother of one beautiful daughter. And I'm a writer, artist, and sometime musician.
Before I came to know Jesus, I wrote and edited science fiction and fantasy. After my conversion, I didn't write any fiction for several years. I simply didn't have any ideas. I believe that Christ was grooming me during that time, saying that I had to know Him before I could write about or for Him. Then one day, as I watched television, I fretted about my daughter (then eleven years old) and all the things that would influence her life and challenge the values my husband and I and the church worked to instill in her. I prayed, and the Lord spoke to my heart, saying, "Use the gifts I have given you." On that day, the plot, setting, and characters for what would become "Preacher's Son" were born. I haven't stopped writing since. With the Lord's help, I am currently working on my third novel and am shopping for an agent or publishing house.
My novels are for and about Christian teenagers. They're set in a fictitious rural county in North Carolina. I hope the books will be enjoyed by guys as well as girls. They focus on some of the issues and temptations teens face everyday, with some drama, a little bit of suspense, a little bit of romance, a little bit of humor, and a lot of God's love and redemption.
I live in Canton, Georgia, with the foothills of the mountains in view. My husband is a computer programmer and musician, and the owner of an iTunes radio station, Bass World Radio (that's bass guitar, not bass the fish!). My daughter loves to dance ballet, and last year danced the lead role of Clara in a professional production of The Nutcracker. (I'm not TOO proud, am I?) We live in a house full of beloved pets: 2 huskies, 3 cats, 3 birds, and a whole bunch of fish. The Lord has blessed us in many ways, but I consider it my greatest privilege to be able to serve Him through the creative gifts He has given me.

In thinking about my recent experience with a "tough" critique group...I suddenly had this little flash of wisdom. At least I think it's wisdom. Maybe it's just my imagination in overdrive after a good night's rest. Anyway....

Well, I guess I've learned a hard lesson today. There are critique groups, and there are critique groups. There are different ways of handling them, different expectations, different levels of expertise. I thought I'd finally made it into something g...

Okay, I haven't been good at adding new blogs to my site, but I have an excuse. Really! For the last two and a half months I've been rewriting my first novel -- following recommendations made by an editor -- in preparation to resubmit the book to a p...

Just when I was settling in for a period of "life as normal," it threw me a great big S curve. I'd sent my manuscript to three publishers and expected to wait up to three months to hear back from any of them. Then my eleven-year-old husky went down.....

Hello there, Diana! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better here at Shoutlife!
When you get a minute, pop over to my Shoutlife profile and my web site to see what God has me doing I traded my guitar for a computer. And if you like places that aim to please writers and readers, visit CFO! There (in addition to my monthly column "Loree's Lough Down"), you'll meet your favorite writers, read reviews about the books they've written, and get insider information about the wild and wacky world of writing!
I pray your Sunday will bring you only good and wonderful things, and that every day of the week ahead will deliver a new blessing!
And if anything is weighing heavy on your heart, please let me join you in prayer, "for wherever two or three of us are gathered in His name?." And isn't it comforting to know you needn't give me the details for Him to hear our joined voices!
Eyes on Him,
(1 Corinthians 10:13)
Loree
