Nebraska is my home state, and I'd heard so much about the Canteen that operated in North Platte during the War that it was my starting place. After Heartsong bought that book (Canteen Dreams BTW), I researched what happened at Fort Robinson and at Camp Atlanta during the War. Let's just say K-9s, coffee and PWs...oh my! You'll learn all kinds of fun things about the war while reading a sweet romance filled with characters I hope you'll love as much as I did.

For the historicals Tricia Goyer or Robin Lee Hatcher (Victory Club), but on a smaller scale.
For suspense, I aspire to write like Colleen Coble, Brandilyn Collins, and Mary Higgins Clark. Deadly Exposure and Trial by Fire are published by Steeple Hill's Love Inspired Line.

A Promise Kept (2009)
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is with me. Psalm 56:8-9
Josie begins her newlywed life with excitement and love. Art Wilson is everything she hoped for in a husband. It seems her prayers have been answered as many dreams come true. But when one dream dies, Josie is not sure her wounded heart will ever heal.
Art Wilson adores his bride and can't spend enough time with her. But he never anticipated how challenging marriage could be, especially with the distraction of a new job in a strange city coupled with the arrival of a distant cousin seeking refuge from the bombings in London.
Josie and Art both wonder where God is when one dream dies and another is blessed. Can they keep the promises they made and build a love that will last a lifetime?

Trial by Fire (2009)
Her mother's house was first. Then her brother's. County prosecutor Tricia Jamison is sure she's next on the arsonist's list. But who is after her family? And why does every fire throw her in Noah Brust's path?
Noah can't forgive Tricia. Her failure to protect him on the stand the previous year meant his father's reputation was ruined. Yet every time the firefighter is near her, he's drawn to her again. The vulnerability she hides under her confident veneer surprises and moves him. Torn between Tricia's safety and his own bitterness, Noah belatedly remembers the first rule of firefighting: don't get burned.

Deadly Exposure (2008)
How could a killer have struck in a crowded theater? That was the question plaguing TV news reporter Dani Richards. She'd been in the box next to the victim -- and hadn't heard or seen a thing. Now the very man who broke Dani's heart years ago is investigating the murder. And when her coverage of the story led the killer to stalk her, police officer and former flame Caleb Jamison insisted on protecting her. Dani was afraid to let Caleb close again. Yet she had no choice. The killer's sinister phone calls left no doubt that he'd come for Dani next.

Sandhill Dreams (2008)
With her dreams shattered, will Lainie Gardner allow God and a soldier at Fort Robinson to breathe life into new dreams that will bring her more joy than she imagined?
Lainie has no dreams left
Lainie Gardner dreamed of becoming a nurse. Of serving her country. Of doing something important in the war. But rheumatic fever changed all that, and instead of running home, Lainie is determined to find a job at Fort Robinson in Nebraska's sandhills.
Tom Hamilton had dreams, too. Dreams of preparing the horses at Fort Robinson for duty on the warfront. Instead, he is assigned to train war dogs and their handlers, meaning that each day he must face the fear he's had of dogs since he was bitten as a child.
Lainie and Tom wonder why God seems to have denied
them their dreams. But is it possible new dreams will bring them more joy than they ever imagined?

Since the time she could read Nancy Drew, Cara has wanted to write mysteries. For years she asked God if this dream was from Him. Her life was full. She graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!), moved to the Washington, DC area, married the man of her dreams, worked in the non-profit world, went to George Mason Law School at night while working, and then started having children. While her life was far from empty, the dream wouldn't die. Then she followed her husband to Indiana. Talk about starting over!
In 2005 she attended a book signing at her local Christian bookstore. The rest, as they say, was history. There she met Colleen Coble. With prompting from her husband, Cara shared her dream with Colleen. Since those infamous words, Cara's been writing books.
Heartsong Presents is publishing a three book series of World War Two romances: Canteen Dreams (October 2007), Sandhill Dreams (May 2008), and Captive Dreams (September 2008). Canteen Dreams won ACFW's Book o f the Year 2008 for short historical! Love Inspired Suspense published her first romantic suspense in May 2008. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Business Law (don't ask!) released in May 2009 and the first book in an Ohio World War Two series released in June. Still to come this year are Trial by Fire (Oct), Cornhusker Dreams (Nov) and A Promise Born (Oct.). Then it's on to a new series she's incredibly excited about.
Cara is also an attorney, lecturer at a Big Ten university, women's ministry leader, and all around crazy woman. Crazy about God, her husband and her kids that is.
In her "spare" time she serves as an adviser to the Indiana American Christian Fiction Writers chapter and is active in ACFW at a national level. To learn more check out www.acfw.com.

I've often heard people say that they ask God for a word or phrase for a new year. Me, not so much. As my husband likes to tell people, if I have a goal or make a resolution, I usually won't rest until I've accomplished it.
This year, God is bei...
