Learning new things; talking about what's happening in the world and especially about how Jesus can be a part of our personal world; people and their stories; talking with teens about the tough stuff of life; taking a break and going for walks with family and friends; seeing a new movie, play, or going to a concert . . . just living life.

Finding Nemo (there's a story behind this one being a fav); Paycheck; Stranger Than Fiction; While You Were Sleeping; Freedom Writers; Pride and Prejudice . . . basically clean chick or humor flicks, mystery, suspense (NO horror!)

Wife, mom, author, speaker, friend, mentor . . . To the core You want to know what grips my heart to the very core? Watching teens and young adults succeed in the face of all they have thrown at them these days. I have a passion to do my small part in the battle for their hearts and lives. How did I get here? I was once a teen who wrestled with the aftermath of my parents' divorce and moved to a new state where I discovered peer pressure and choices I (naively) never knew existed. I struggled. I made mistakes. Thankfully, while in high school, someone told me I could find answers and strength through a relationship with Christ. That's another story for another time, but I did begin to learn what it meant to trust God through all kinds of crazy situations. By the time I was twenty, I began working with youth and I haven't stopped. I'm now married and have been living and working with my husband at a ranch for at-risk youth for the last twenty-something years. We have two children, ages 21 and 24, who have fared pretty well facing today's cultural pressures. When people try to credit us as parents, I say, "only by the grace of God." And I fully believe that. We can't do any of this without him. -Jan Jan's blog on teen trends and author news:Type: "www" a dot, then "jan" then "kern" then dot "com" (Hopefully this is only temporary, but a bug seems to be preventing my name from being used as a link.) Teens need hope. Maybe we can be that hope builder.
But it takes deep commitment, starting with what we do to make sure we have the hope to give, the hope they need most.

Glad tidings and warm thoughts Fellow Authors,
We've decided to brave the cold. January 15 through 19, 2010 the Author Collective will shake hands with and share a cup of warm cider with 9,000 plus librarians of the northeast United States and elsewhere. The American Library Association Mid-Winter will be held in Boston, Massachusetts and what better way to showcase your book?
Past conventions have indicated that two specific genres are now in big demand, "Children" and "Urban" titles. As such we are planning to include a separate section in our booth dedicated to Urban Fiction and Non-Fiction plus books that instruct and educate children from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. We are now looking for authors who have such topics. If your writings fit these categories you should join the Author Collective TODAY!
Our goal is to help the self-published and un-known,under-known and soon to be well known author, get their craft in front of the people who make decisions to buy books in quantity. Sign up for the Author Collective today and get an extra month of membership FREE. That's right, join any time in December 2009 and your membership will not expire until January 1, 2011.
Don't let this opportunity pass you bye. Call me TODAY!
