The Woman I Am Becoming (2007)
"Every day that summer I went into the projects and told kids about Jesus. Every day I told them God loved them. Every day we memorized verses about His love. And every day, when I was finished, I ran to the bathroom and threw up..."
~An excerpt of a piece I share in Suzie's latest book, The Woman I Am Becoming.

God Allows U-Turns for Teens (2006)
"I can remember time after time my step-dad beat my mom real bad, sometimes sending her to the hospital. I remember crying, weeping almost, and just screaming for him to stop hitting her. I was helpless, terrified, and confused..."
This is an excerpt from the true story of Jeremy, a friend whose story I share in God Allows U-Turns for Teens.

Real Teens, Real Stories, Real Life (2002)
I was 17 when Suzie Eller approached me about sharing my story in her book, Real Teens, Real Stories, Real Life. The piece I wrote shares the hope I experienced in the midst of brokenness.

B.J. Hamrick was born in Savannah, Georgia, in an event which her brother keeps reminding her was completely unnecessary. She spent most of her life in eastern North Carolina, and finished high school from the North end of her bed due to an illness.
Her fascination with writing began at the age of eight, when she harassed and manipulated 28 pen-pals into writing her on a weekly basis. Over the past few years B.J. has harassed and manipulated traditional publishers into printing her work almost 150 times.
Most importantly, B.J. is desperately in love with and married to her best friend.
The most interesting question B.J. has ever been asked is, "Do you have any tattoos?"
B.J.'s answer: she has one on the back of her eyeball, but she's personally never seen it.

It's hard to believe that one year ago I was almost finished planning a wedding.

I can't say I miss the planning, but I sure miss these people.
This week I get to hang out with each ...

Skeletons. Everyone has them. Things we would never tell our kids, like, daddy smoked pot once in high school or mommy took Benadryl once in high school.
Some skeletons stay where they belong -- below the surface. Other times we slip and fall and ...

Apartment-Life Ages Newlywed

It's amazing how quickly apartment-life ages a person. When I moved into this complex seven months ago, I was active, healthy, and 23-years-old.
Now I'm lazy, fat, and just scored 73-years-old in one of those "find your true age" tests online.
...

Recently I learned that the official medical definition for the word ultrasound is as follows: The ultra-loud-sound the patient makes when her bladder is full and the technician pushes the probe against it.
I am not a scientist, but this week I co...

I never realized until today that when I dial 9-1-1 with my cell phone, it makes siren noises.
But I should start at the beginning.
This morning I wasn't feeling well, so I decided to go to bed when Ethan left for work. I didn't have to leave f...
