Becky Baker and Katie Blackburn have been performing the Bessie & Beulah show nationwide for the past 16 years. They have shared the platform with Barbara Bush, Paul Harvey and Dan Quayle in Tennessee, performed for Boeing Corporation engineers in Los Angeles, and taken their audience though an "autobody experience" at the National Auto Body Congress and Exposition in Dallas. Other clients include Chevrolet, Kaiser Permanente, ServiceMaster, Salvation Army, the San Diego District Attorney's office, Teen Challenge, and Executive Women International.
Becky and Katie have been best friends for 29 years, and came up with the idea through their theater work with Lamb's Players in San Diego and SAK Theatre, performed at Renaissance Faires and Disney's Epcot Center. In addition to the Bessie & Beulah show, they do training seminars on laughter and humor. They recently taped a TV pilot for another project of theirs?a nationally syndicated talk show.
Audiences love participating and laughing at themselves. The result, according to Tricia Chase of Chase Productions, is one of the most clever, funny shows on the road. BECKY BAKER
Becky Baker has been a professional model and actress since 1977. She started out doing TV commercials and industrial films, progressing to having her own live stage show, The Bessie & Beulah Comedy Show, which she has been performing with her partner for eighteen years. Their act has taken them all over the United States as they perform their customized, side-splitting routine for audiences as diverse as Boeing, Kaiser Permanente, and Chevrolet. Becky has also been a high school teacher since 1970, teaching all levels of Spanish from first year to sixth. She is completely bilingual, having been raised in Central America, and has been selected for numerous awards like Disney Teacher of the Year and UCSD Teacher of the Year. She has taught at California State University at San Diego, University of San Diego, Palomar College and Chapman University. Becky also travels the country as a motivational speaker. Her seminars on "Laughter, God's Best Medicine" are embraced by audiences all over the United States as she teaches people how to look for, and find, the humor all around us in life. Her seminars, which she has been conducting since 1985, are very interactive and include numerous multimedia as she shows real life examples of humor everywhere. Becky owns her own production company, Brata Productions, and in addition to staging live productions, has produced a television pilot, "The Chickilu Yayas", which is being represented now in Hollywood by 3N1 with the creator and executive producer of "Judging Amy". Her first book, Joy Killers, is now in its second printing. Becky's second book, The Do's and Don't for Teachers, was released September 2007. Becky has been married for thirty-five years to Randy and is the mother of three grown children.
For over 25 years, Katie Blackburn has been entertaining audiences through professional theatre and stand-up comedy. Her spontaneous humor and quick wit have enabled Katie to get through everything in life from divorce to death to raising her 3 children. As an actress with Lamb's Players, a professional theatre company, she has toured the country as well as performed on their resident stage. Her roles have included both drama and comedy. Katie has also produced, written and directed large productions for churches in Southern California. One of her great loves is comedy. As "Bessie" in the stand-up comedy show "Bessie & Beulah", Katie has delighted audiences around the country for 18 years and has shared the stage with Barbara Bush, Dan Quayle, and Paul Harvey. Katie was one of the founding members of SAK Theatre, a Minnesota-based theatre company which later became one of the major entertainment attractions at Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida. Her years of theatre experience includes Peaseblossom in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Dr. Armstrong in Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians", Simone Boniface in Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", and Mrs. Ruddle, the know-it-all housekeeper in "Busman's Honeymoon". She has also done voice-over work for the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre as well as film training for the California Police Officer's Satellite Training Program. With a few years of life experience (we won't say exactly how many!) under her belt, Katie is quick to make you laugh as she tells it like it is. Her hilarious opinions will both mesmerize and enlighten you.
