Courtney Williams was born to Marie and Charles Williams on Aug. 30, 1984 in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. At a young age, Courtney moved to Newport News, VA along with his older brother Brandon and mother. He listened to early hip-hop with his brother and some of his favorites were Eric B and Rakim, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane and EPMD. He also loved the old school music his mother would play such as Roberta Flack, The Whispers, Parliament / Funkadelics, Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass, and others. That is when he decided to become a vocalist but was quickly deterred because he didn't have the voice for singing. Around the age of 12, Courtney started promoting parties. He would buy mix tapes of his favorite turntablist, DJ Karee, and play them at the parties. He soon started to study the tapes and bought his first set of DJ equipment, practicing with his mother's old records. His brother, Brandon, introduced him to DJ Blizz and DJ Prophecy, who taught him how to scratch and blend on their equipment. Shortly, Courtney bought a real set of turntables and after mastering the fundamentals like looping and different battle tactics, he had the confidence to not only throw parties but be the DJ also. He took on the name DJ Prodigy and as he got older, he met other DJ's like DJ Bee, DJ Dirty, DJ Spigg Nice, DJ Hollywood and DJ Craze who all gave him tips that would help him improve his craft. Baby D and DJ Karee also influenced him. Now known as A-Spitta, (stands for Anointed Spitta), Courtney quickly gained a strong reputation for being one of the best turntablists in the Tidewater area. His exposure expanded rapidly after joining the US Army at the age of 17 in 2002. In 2003, he went into production with the help of his close friend Bryan Simpson aka AZIO Vanderpool. AZIO introduced him to the ASR-X and gave him lessons on reading music. That created a hunger for striving to be the most versatile producer of all time. In January 2005, A-Spitta joined the Transportation Express, a vocal group in the US Army and worked as their production specialist, sound engineer and turntable-ist. During his tenure he has earned many awards in his group and the US Army. Currently, A-Spitta is pursuing his own independent label based in Newport News, VA.
