Jewel Sample is a retired Child and Parenting Specialist with a Master of Science degree in Family Relations and Child Development from Oklahoma State University. She and her husband, Chuck are parents of three sons and grandparents of fourteen children.

She has written her first children's book titled, Flying Hugs and Kisses. Flying Hugs and Kisses is about five children who creatively take on roles of support toward each other while showing their individual feelings about the death of their baby brother to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Flying Hugs and Kisses is available in the Spanish language titled, Besos y abrazos al aire and has an accompanying activity book titled, Flying Hugs and Kisses Activity Book.

The Flying Hugs and Kisses Activity Book provides encouraging activities to help children discover new things about themselves and to provide them with a supportive way to talk to an adult about the loss their family has experienced.

Flying Hugs and Kisses won The National Parenting Center 2007 Seal of Approval.

The National Parenting Center Seal of Approval report indicates, "Jewel Sample does a wonderful job of breaking down some of the confusing terms that children hear during times like these and celebrates the love and strength that family provides." The National Sudden and Unexpected Infant/Child Death & Pregnancy Loss Resource Center has selected Sample's books, Flying Hugs and Kisses and Besos y abrazos al aire as a bereavement resource for families with children. Amazon.com listed Flying Hugs and Kisses as a 100 Top Bestsellers of large print books for children in 2006 and 2007.

Jewel Sample is available to speak to churches, women's interests, parenting or bereavement support groups or conferences. Topic presentations include: How to help children deal with grief, parenting issues and grandparent's bereavement.
