The Adventures of Gracie and Diane series, (2007)
"The Adventures of Gracie & Diane"
Suggested for children up to 12 years old, all special needs children and animal lovers of ALL ages! Hardcover, 32 pages, 8 x 11, retail price $14.99
This book series is based on the true story of an adorable Italian Greyhound, who had a "ruff" life until Diane Dike, a courageous woman handicapped by a rare and incurable disease, adopted her. Gracie was hospitalized for some terrible injuries when left alone. Homeless, she waited for a special someone to take her home. Meanwhile, Diane was suffering with a frightful disease that eroded the quality of her life. Diane prayed for help, and God sent Gracie.
Diane felt connected to Gracie immediately and determined she would be there for the little dog as she recovered. In turn, Gracie's unconditional love and devotion to Diane allowed her to develop into the first rescued Italian Greyhound service dog in America helping a woman with a rare blood disease. Diane rescued Gracie and Gracie rescued Diane right back. With Gracie's help, Diane can more fully and safely participate in life. Against all odds they em-"bark" on many adventures while sharing their life together.
Gracie and Diane have many heartwarming "tails" to share with children and animal lovers of all ages. Readers may giggle, or even shed a few tears. Elementary school teachers, parents, doctors, and hospitals can use this charming series of children's books. Each story touches upon important and sometimes difficult subjects including: friendship, responsibility, compassion, helping one another, good behavior, obedience, fear, and health issues. These entertaining and thoughtful stories are developed through the relationship between gentle Gracie and her adventures with Diane. The story is beautifully illustrated by Craig Grasso and his daughter Samantha Grasso, who vividly portray the remarkable bond between Gracie and Diane.
Book One introduces Gracie, where she came from, and how she ended up homeless, needing surgery in Colorado. It also introduces her loving owner, Diane Dike, who suffers from cryoglobulinemia, a rare blood disease that affects every aspect of her life. A deep and affectionate bond of friendship is formed in this triumphant story where a broken dog and struggling woman help each other.
As Diane rescues Gracie from a life of loneliness, enduring lessons of faith, hope, and unconditional love are emphasized.
The illustrator, Craig Grasso, is well-respected in the animation world. He worked with Disney Studio's. Among some of his most popular works are Lion King, Mulan, Pocahontas, Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, Emperors New Groove, and Ice Age II. He is currently working with Pixar on a top-secret film in California. His talented daughter, Samantha, works for Hallmark and is the co-illustrator. Craig and Samantha decided to join this project because they believe in the message of hope, faith, and love--even in brokenness--that this book shares through Diane and the adorable Gracie, the Italian Greyhound. http://differentcolor.com/

Each of us has a purpose in this life: I believe my purpose is to encourage others to hold on to hope. My husband, Paul, accepted me when I was broken, that restored my hope. In turn, I rescued Gracie when she was broken, she rescued me right back and became my service dog. Together, Paul, Gracie and I have formed a unique bond and have been given a second chance to encourage and restore hope to others.
